Changing Jobs, Need Help. ASAP.
So, I have been working at group homes for individuals with mental illness and developmental disabilities the last 2-3 years. It has been a wonderful and eye opening experience for me and I don't regret any moment of it. However I recently applied for another job and got the job offer. The new job i...

Re: How would you start again
Breath Meditation. Period. YMMV, but for me it's been my one and only refuge since I found it.
It goes so deep and grows so complete that I can't explain it.

Advice needed.
This question may belong in a different category. I'm not sure, but since it kind of revolves around making an ethical decision i'll put it here. Ok, so I am going back to college. This means mountains of paperwork and late nights studying and reading. In my background I was diagnosed with Attention...

Re: Why are jhanas considered superior to sensual pleasures?
Dear Satti1, Please note that I have not attained jhana so I am not speaking from personal experience. ... But can jhanas not also result in craving and therefore cause suffering? I'm guessing that one could become attached to the bliss and calm of jhana and therefore not devote time and effort int...

North America
Are there any North American monasteries that are accepting want-to-be monks that anyways knows about? I haven't contacted a monastery yet, but I am kind of just wondering what to expect. No room? Not accepting? etc. Thanks if anyone can answer for me.

Re: Right Speech and Risks
I'm a little confused with Right Speech and Right Action. Even if the intent is to do no harm there is still a risk of doing harm through a lack of skill. It seems a "wise" path is often one of avoiding getting involved in "other people's" problems. I doubt there is an absolute ...

Re: Enlightened ones?
I kind of thought along the same lines. He does not need to meditate, but does so as a means for greater tranquility. Although, I guess it's debatable on whether greater tranquility would be needed. I would think so since he is still in a human body. But on the other hand, he wouldn't "want&quo...

Enlightened ones?
Just curious, does an arahant need to meditate?
I would think no personally, and maybe that would be pure speculation. But I am just bringing this up for the sake of a good conversation.
Opinions?!

Re: Where is God in Buddhism?
The Buddha continues: " Have you heard the voices of deities who have been reborn in an entirely happy world, saying 'The attainment of an entirely happy world has been well and rightly gained, and we, gentlemen, have been reborn in such a realm?'" and they replied: "No." What d...

"I brought it up with the hopes of inducing the awakening of awareness to these contradictory motivations within those battling them."
I'm confused to why it took 6 pages of posts to get this point across. Can you elaborate?

Re: Where is God in Buddhism?
I think it's important to remember. You doing nothing but looking at a screen with letters and symbols on it that you are using to try to describe things that are ever-so-constantly changing.
