Re: Wat Dhammakaya
I am happy that this thread has become a bit more balanced now that Trobinson and Paul Trafford are also joining in with the discussion. I wish to add in a few notes here, before I move to another center for the second vassa, with most likely a bad Internet connection. Regarding Wat Phra Dhammakaya,...

Re: Wat Dhammakaya
With regard to this thread, I will not say much, as I have already said many things about Wat Phra Dhammakaya, the wat I have ordained in. Anyone wishing to know my opinion on the matter of our wat, feel free to send me a personal message or you might just read my posts in several threads. I think t...

On http://www.archive.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and http://www.scribd.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; you can find Horner's and Rhys Davids' translations of the Vinaya texts. I think there all on there.

Re: Dhammakaya replaces "anatta" with "atta" in their Tipitaka!
Dear Phra Sander, Could you explain to us what is your understanding of connection between atta and nibbana? And what is Dhammakaya's grasp of it. Thank you. I have just travelled back from Indonesia, and have not been online for a number of days. I am now just back online and happy to see your que...

Re: Dhammakaya replaces "anatta" with "atta" in their Tipitaka!
Yes, I agree that the negative news about monks in Thailand is on the increase all the time and the faith of the lay people is declining. See for example this article that just appeared: http://www.buddhistchannel.tv/index.php?id=52,10014,0,0,1,0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return fa...

Re: Dhammakaya replaces "anatta" with "atta" in their Tipitaka!
I have discussed the issue with some scholars working in Thailand and abroad on Tipitaka texts and they also expressed doubts whether those scholars (especially from Sri Lanka) would risk their professional reputation if they intentionally falsified the texts. This is what I wrote: So it really see...

Re: Dhammakaya replaces "anatta" with "atta" in their Tipitaka!
Hi kentiam Thanks for takig the time to respond. My post wasn't directed just to you. I have no problem with you defending Dhammakaya. The issue is, whether it is you or another Dhamma Wheel member, either writing in another language or reproducing material in another language and not providing a t...

Re: Wat Dhammakaya
Very interesting, comparing it to the Forest tradition of Ajahn Mun daily practice of meditation of 14 to 18 hours a day. Than Acharn Maha Bua says, that real meditation practice starts only after 3 hours in a stretch. Be it walking meditation or sitting meditation. He himself sat quite often 12hou...

Re: Wat Dhammakaya
Ok, Halemalu, I have a specific question. Will you please describe the meditation technique advocated by this group, and why you believe it is beneficial. Alan and others, I don't know what Halemalu is answering to this, but living as a bhikkhu in Wat Phra Dhammakāya, I think I can answer this ques...

Re: Hello from The Netherlands
How was it to ordain? It seems to me like a brave thing to do. How did your family and friends react? I also seems difficult to me to arrange to leave all the things behind, both practically (do you give everything you have away or something?) and mentally. I slowly grew into it. I was a volunteer ...

Re: When typing Pali...
Dear all, There is on this website a Vietnamese program that has a language bar with the option of typing Pāli or Sanskrit. I personally use it, and I think it works quite well. You just type two a's to get an ā. Type a t with a period and it becomes a ṭ . You can try it. http://www.buddhismtoday.co...

Re: Karma and epigenetics
It is interesting to note that the Thai word for genetics, kammapan (กรรมพันธุ์), is sometimes also used by the Thai for the Judeo-Christian idea of original sin! Actually, from a Buddhist point of view, you could say that genetics in its basic assumptions is actually not that different from the con...
