Re: Taking Refuge Phonetic Pronounciation

Whoops, I seem to have forgotten to mention they will be in Pali and the monastery is in the Thai Forest Tradition.

I’m having trouble finding a clear YouTube video either due to my poor efforts or maybe I’m just not listening.

Taking Refuge Phonetic Pronounciation

I am planning to attend my local Monastary next week to take refuge with a monk and would like to learn the correct pronunciation. I know they won’t judge me on my attempt but out of respect I would like to get it right. When I did this 3 years ago they gave me a cue card but I still ended up mumbli...

Drowning In Dharma, Structured Learning?

:buddha2: I've been trying to get my head around this one for a long time but feel a bit overwhelmed by the amount of books, MP3, Dharma talks etc. There are lots of books about what Buddhism is, there are lots of books on people's philosophy on Buddhist teaching and the Sutras. Is there such a thin...

Online Sangha

I live in the depths of conservative England and my nearest access to a centre for Theravada is more than two hours away by car via a complicated route into the middle of nowhere serviced by no public transport. I only feel myself drawn down the Theravada path so wouldn't feel comfortable going to a...

Audio/MP3/iTunes etc Canon

Is there such a thing as an English audio translation of The Pali Canon? There are times when I can't relax enough to meditate or sleep and love listening to audiobooks. There are translations of The Bible etc. but I was wondering if there was an audio Canon. For me it would prove a nice lunchtime d...

Re: Structured Reading

Yes, there is probably no better primer than Bhikkhu Bodhi's "In the Buddha's Words". You can also read the Bhikkhu Bodhi's translation of the Majjhima Nikaya along-side mp3 files of lectures he gives on the suttas in that collection. Google "Bodhi Monastery" and search through ...

Structured Reading

As a relative newcomer I am still finding the beginnings of my path through Buddhism. I am starting to get the hang of sitting still and finding my breathing but also want to do some reading. I was thinking about starting of with basics and reading translations of the Suttas before moving on to othe...

Pali Canon

There are lots of sites with free downloads of Buddhist texts and books but can anybody recommend any good ebook versions of the Pali Canon in English? I've got Kindles that I use for reading at work or out and about and it would be nice to have something meaningful on the to read rather than some o...
