Thank you very much for sharing your day.

It would be most kind if you could share the name of this book you are referring to.

Re: Possibility of Stream Entry

So whether it is possible or not for us personally will depend on several factors such as ability, intelligence, faith, effort, honesty, morality, etc. Of these, faith and effort are critical factors. If you think and believe it's not possible, it's not possible. If you believe it is possible, then...

Re: Why Ordain?

One reason for choosing monasticism is the sort of companionship available to you. For what it is worth, I think this is one of the most important reasons to ordain. Even if one has an independent source of income and can be picky with one's relationships with others, it might be quite a bit easier...

Re: Arahants and physical pain

I do not question of course the importance of spiritual growth, but one of the goals of Buddhism (maybe the main one?) is the eradication of all suffering, including physical suffering. Perhaps there is a subtle difference between eradicating the suffering rising from wanting to avoid experiencing ...

Re: How can I get all the scriptures?

I really really want to read it all. Though there has been very helpful and useful responses in this thread, I would like to offer one more point of view. Even though craving for more Dhamma is nothing but beneficial, this might still be a good opportunity to reflect why there is such a strong urge...

Re: urban buddhist monk

So no it is not possible to be an urban monk except in short spells of a month. Maybe a rare person here and there can. But over long time such a reclusive life while living amidst few million people will cause mental problems unless the person had schizoid, loner tendencies to begin with and was i...

[...] is the gym not just a way to boost ones ego and become attached to the body? This is a big dilemma for me Going to a gym is what you make out of it. Observe what your feelings towards not going are. Skip a session or two and see what feelings arise in the mind. Whatever feelings occur after y...

Re: Face is twisting

Hi, I have a question regarding my meditation. Since more than 3 years, after my first vipassana (Goenka) retreat, I have the feeling that my face is moving, twisting. Sometime if I feel more relax, all my upper body is twisting. Does anyone have an idea of what is it? Thanks for any advices Librar...

Re: We can't all ordain...right?

As far as continuation of human race goes there will have to be some sex for procreational purpose. After giving some thought about this I fail to find any reason why continuation of human race would be something that necessarily should be endorsed from theravadan point of view. I'm not knowledgeab...

Edit: huh, you have to pay to post? Interesting. Still useful to be able to browse.
I think the cost to be a member on Dhammaloka is about $2 which is a user pays philsophy to cover costs of administration etc.
Sound more like a spam-prevention measure to me.

Re: Black jack dealer to Bhikkhu

Thank you for the welcome. I am now a one month-old monk. This has been one of the best things I've ever done. It's been a great experience so far, even if the most challenging. I congratulate you all on finding the right path. A wonderful life. What an inspiring career move, Bhante. May I ask you ...

Re: Sloth/Torpor vs Back Pain

Well, the title kind of describes it all. Normally this wouldn't even be a problem to be honest, but I am doing a retreat in about 3 months time and it's a 10 day Goenka retreat and although I am confident that I could sit through the pain; it doesn't necessarily mean that I should. Mr. Goenka's ta...
