Re: Revisiting The Buddha's Ethnicity

By the way, Kusala, have you ever been to Nepal, India (such as Lumbini, Kapilavastu, Bodh Gaya, Sravasti)? Or are you an Indian/Nepalese person?

I have been there twice mainly for visiting the Buddha's footprints, the historical sites.

Re: Revisiting The Buddha's Ethnicity

I think the Wikipedia is reliable for the Buddha's appearance on the origin of the Shakyas (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shakya). It supports the Pali and Chinese early Buddhist texts: "Origin The Shakyas were an eastern sub-Himalayan ethnic group on the periphery, both geographically and cult...

Translation and interpretation of suttas are simply not the same functions, purposes of textual studies. :candle:

Re: Revisiting The Buddha's Ethnicity

The ethnicity (or skin colour) of the Buddha is certainly not an issue at all for those who follow the Dharma (such as the four noble truths). But if considering the various cultural aspects of early Buddhist history, one may be interested in the ethnicity of the Buddhism founder, the Buddha. Accor...

Re: What is a dhammā exactly?

SN 55.28-29 and their counterparts SA 845-846 provide information on the specific contents of Dhamma and morality (sīla), which are the second and fourth of the four qualities, i.e. Buddha, Dhamma, Saṅgha, Sīla in the teachings of Stream-entry: The Sotāpatti Saṃyutta of SN/SA. Regarding the content ...

Re: What is a dhammā exactly?

I am unable to see the Gethin’s argument on Dhamma is the Buddha Dhamma at all (particularly based on the core teachings of SN/SA suttas).

Re: Ahara Sutta, Son's Flesh

Pulsar wrote SN 47 is the Satipatthana Samyutta. Nevertheless, the content of SN 47.42 is clearly about the arising and cessation of the four ahara s (SA 371-378 = SN 12.11-12, 63-64), not about sati. Saṁyutta Nikāya 47.42. So, what is the difference?

If you are unable to read the Chinese SA versions? :jumping:

Re: Revisiting The Buddha's Ethnicity

All my posts are backed by genetics...Northern Europe has more steppe ancestry than other parts of Europe. What this view has to do with the Buddha's ethnicity? I think the Buddha very likely looks like vasala or caṇḍāla . https://www.dhammawheel.com/viewtopic.php?p=748791#p748791 So the "lion...
