Re: Chakra and qualities
I'm sorry if it's not the right section, but i'm new and ignorant about this kind of theme ( Chakra ). Is it true that, through practicing concentration on a specific chakra, it can produce, explicate, make manifest ( real ), a set of specific qualities or virtues? Is it true the opposite which is,...

Re: A protective "higher self" and Buddhism.
Haven't read the thread, and aren't here for debating the existence of a higher self or not, but say a few words about how I use the symbol for what it's worth. Consider it as a placebo , where I, the patient knowingly create a so-called higher self , and let the being slowly vibrate towards the imp...

Re: Thoughts on these quotes from Ven. Buddhadasa Bhikkhu?
If one has to repeat the taking of precepts and following their core meaning, can one say one is a Buddhist or one who plays around with Buddhism? I say NO!, if one has given up the world, promised to that which is most precious in oneself to do it!, then it's from now and until my last breath and b...

Edit:
When someone is doing or making an effort to gain BV, the mind contracts and becomes mechanical, and the harmonious state of non-abiding feels wobbly.

Re: Ajahn chah BV
This can be experienced in the ordinary state of mindfulness. One can contract/concentrate the mind onto an object and gain stillness, or one can let the mind be, and it opens up naturally where it includes "all", and being aware in this still point of inclusion where the four qualities of...

Re: Stream entry by simply listening to the dhamma: possible?
I don't know if one can listen oneself to stream-entry, but I think that everything is vibration. If there is a clear connection between output (speaker) and input (listener), then the sound or vibration won't be distorted, and that which is nameless is seen clearly because there is no one noticing ...

Re: in theravada buddhism, can you purify your karma?
There is a sutta where the Buddha sees a recluse ritually bathing himself in the ganges. When asked by the Buddha why he is doing so, the recluse said he bathed in the holy river to "purify bad karma". The Buddha asked him if this could be done, wouldn't it wash away his good karma as wel...

Re: Encountering devas and mental illness
There are many instances in the suttas of encountering devas or even Brahmas. It is safe to assume that such phenomena appear only to advanced meditators. If the meditators was to encounter such beings for the first time, what should he do? How can he be sure that he is not mentally ill? Only Araha...

Re: How to increase faith in the Buddha?
:namaste: Easy; ask yourself, Am I conscious? If the answer is, Yes!, - you are aware of being awake. "Buddha" means "awake". Stay with that sense of being awake, and with practice, you will come to trust in awareness or Buddha. Have faith in yourself! Be well and happy

Re: Lives after Stream Entry
So could it be, for instance, that a stream-winner is born in a culture where there is no dharma present, and they manifest in such a way that basically they appear to be a virtuous, good-hearted Christian? No… How do you know? I would say yes, but that's not right, so I rather say I don't know bef...
