Re: Nuts - too much of a good thing?

Hmmmm ... Gandhi believed that he knackered his digestive system up by trying to live on virtualy fruit and nuts alone. I have heard that it was a similar fruit'n'nut diet that has caused the DL's controversial health problem. Also have read that you could do yourself harm by eating too many carrots...

Re: Contrarian Thought As Compulsion

A Compulsive Contrarian is one who is compelled to offer a contrary arguement to that of the majority in a given setting. This becomes a knee jerk response apparently not fully in the control of those who exhibit contrarian behaviour. The symptoms of Compulsive Contrarianism in a cyber world contex...

I fail to see the use of anyone remaining ignorant of basic self-defense methods, Buddhist or not, monastic or not. Isn't protecting the self the source of our problem? 'Lo Mukanda :) Whilst agreeing that the 'five finger death punch' and spinning round house kicks are entirely unbuddhist they are ...

Re: Stealing: Is there a time and a place?

Thievery! My mom brought this up. The question is, if you are a pauper and your children are starving, can you steal some bread? I know it's hypothetical. I'm just curious what people will say. One answer might be, "Ask them if you can take it." 1. They say "no." 2. You know the...

Re: Christian funeral service

Those promises of the afterlife are a genuine consolation, a practical way of dealing with the suffering, so long as the hearers are truly believers. This is true. I have seen it in my own parents who truly believe they will go to heaven for eternity when they die. It is that which gives their life...

Re: Five Precepts

When you lie you are creating a state of delusion in someone else's consciousness which is a terrible thing to do. Indeed it is. More terrible still is that in order to lie when you speak a lie you must believe it yourself. Kinda like before we can create a state of delusion in the minds of others ...

Apart from the internationally reknown Tzu Chi few people are aware of Buddhist NGOs which are doing good work around the world. I just came across this Korean Buddhist NGO which appears to be doing great work too. "Good Hands" http://www.goodhands.or.kr/english/work/laos.html" oncli...
