Re: A 'Basic' Question

Hi Collective Does your method of vipassana make it easy for you to see the impermanence of all mental and material phenomena that arises? With metta Matheesha I'm not fully aware of it through out the whole day no. But I think that's more to do with me not being mindful. What I mean is, when I med...

Re: A 'Basic' Question

One morning I practice vipassana, the next I practice samatha, and so on.

Is this wise?

Thank you

Re: A 'Basic' Question

I was meditating a few months ago when I got a glimpse of this 'Annica' concept. For a split second, the reality that everything changees, that nothing lasts, really hit me. It was allof a sudden so clear. But it slipped away almost as quickly. And yes, it was a good liberating feeling. So I hope t...

Re: A 'Basic' Question

On another angle, metta meditation helps me with the fear of death. The Buddha said that one who practices metta dies unconfused. When I practice metta, I feel that if I would die that day, there wouldn't be a problem. I hope this is not too off topic. It isn't off topic at all, it helps. Thank you

Re: A 'Basic' Question

So Vipassana, real insight, is this going to help me overcome not just my terror of dying, but of all terrors? You might find this helpful. Speaking about death, Goenkaji said that death is a taboo because of fear about death. He explained how a Vipassana meditator eradicates fear by exploring the ...

Re: A 'Basic' Question

I think that is very real Collective. I remember a time when i was in my twenties where my fear of dying became so acute that i could hardly bear to see graves...I dont look forward to it even now, but it has lost its terror. In part that is due to being older, but it is also a result of Vipassana ...

A 'Basic' Question

Forgive me if this is in the wrong forum. I have meditated for the last 18 months, possibly more toward the two year mark. I've read a few books, and lately, my time on the cushion has increased to 45 minutes every morning. I've read about vipassana nurturing real 'insight' and I've read about other...

Re: SN Goenka

Lately I've been practising Samatha one morning then Vipassana the next morning, and so on.

I just got myself a bit confused as to what both really were. It's clearer now.

Thank you all :namaste:

Re: SN Goenka

Is anapanasati to do with vipassana or samatha? ===== The Anapanasati Sutta defines a meditation which includes both in one meditation. jack That's intriguing. When I first started meditating, I practiced Samatha. I would stay with the breath as best I could, no matter what sensation arose, physica...

Re: SN Goenka

Thank you all very much, I shall follow up your advice Unfortunately though, as far as day retreats are concerned - I have a wife and 3 children. Also, there's not a vipassana class for miles, let alone a retreat. I get everything from books, vids and coming here For which I'm very thankful :namaste:

I've just read that article, as you were posting. Very good read.

Can someone recommend a book on meditation by SN Goenka?

Thank you
