Re: What is meant by being mindful of doubting?

I have problems with being mindful of doubt. If someone tells me he is superman, I have doubts about that, and it doesnt just arise and seize. Actually they do if you observe them closely. To take up your example. Someone tells you he is superman, then doubts arise. When you are mindful of that you...

What is meant by being mindful of doubting?

When we doubt, we should stay mindful and see how it arises and seizes. But how can we be mindful in daily life and see any doubt about anything that arises just seize to exist? I have problems with being mindful of doubt. If someone tells me he is superman, I have doubts about that, and it doesnt j...

Re: Feeling that I am lying to myself while meditating

My doubting about whether I practice the correct way of Sayadaw Mahasi practice is much weaker now. I think there was some tunnel vision and semantics that had arisen in the mind. I see that I should focus more on the detachment and objective observation and less on the labeling of phenomena as &qu...

Re: Feeling that I am lying to myself while meditating

Where have you picked up this instruction in the first place? Maybe this phrase "judge an emotion" could be unpacked: do you judge negative emotions, say, as inherently sinful somehow, and feel you should not do that, or do you judge them as unskillful, and feel you should be passive upon...

Re: Feeling that I am lying to myself while meditating

If it's only been a few weeks, keep in mind that this is a path we're on our whole lives :) Some of these things like doubt will become old friends, which is exactly how it should be. We need to familiarize ourselves with the ways our minds suffer over time. I think I had a similar experience to yo...

Re: Feeling that I am lying to myself while meditating

OK, i may not have made it all clear, and i am sorry for that. But i dont doubt the vipassana practice nor the mental noting and its benefits and I am not feeling impatient or frustrated about the practice. I just need to read some suttas maybe to make sure i understand what i have misunderstood. I ...

Re: Feeling that I am lying to myself while meditating

It depends on the doubt and what it's about. I get periods where I doubt the efficacy of practice, and it saps my confidence. This kind of doubt and worry is like a magician: it uses sleight of hand to get you to look away while it works in secret. In this case, the doubt is really in the doubt its...

Feeling that I am lying to myself while meditating

Hi, I am new to meditation and almost completely illiterate when it comes to theravada buddhism but have had wonderful results as a result of vipassana meditation, basically I have come a long way of treating my compulsive and addictive behavior after only a few weeks of meditating a couple of hours...
