Re: Taking members seriously
Retro, I recommend that you do some research into the phenomenon of scapegoating. The group dynamic at play here in this thread and elsewhere on this board is a good illustration of it. If you look at the discussion referenced in the OP, you will see exactly that phenomenon at play. The tag-team res...

Re: Taking members seriously
Thanks, Jhana. The same could be said of anyone who posts here. Does that mean any time we post in a thread in which we've faced disagreement, we're not "letting go"? I understand that you don't mean to insult me. But you also are not able to see whether I'm letting go or not. These things...

Re: Web removal tools
I think you might be doing it wrong. So if I understand you correctly, if someone makes defamatory remark about another person, it's because the target of the remark was "doing it wrong." The person who made the defamatory remark is not the problem. In any case, I don't see why a person w...

Web removal tools
I feel members should be aware that this tool exists to help them mitigate potential damage from any personal or defamatory messages that happen to appear on a discussion board for a short while and are cached by Google before the mod/admin team has a chance to take them down.

Re: Taking members seriously
Some of the responses and name-calling in this thread illustrate why it's so difficult to participate here. Different people are treated differently. I have always tried to maintain a positive approach and show gratitude for others. Fede, the fact that you are a moderator on three other boards yet f...

Re: Open invitation: Help us improve your DW experience!
Here is some advice if anyone else is ever subject to a signature attack. It includes these directions for removing a page or site from Google's search results.
Best wishes.
Best wishes.

Re: Taking members seriously
Tilt, earlier you told me: No one is telling you do not have legitimate grievances So there are different possible focal points for comments in this tread, including: 1) The underlying concerns about things that sometimes happen on this board; and 2) My manner if conveying those concerns. Many of th...

Re: Taking members seriously
Even better yet, through a little metta meditation in there towards Tilt and see what happens. Absolutely. I certainly have done this. For me, it's very good practice to deliberately send metta and thoughts of good will not only to myself and the people I care about, but also to people I am neutral...

Re: Taking members seriously
In this thread, I wanted what I thought had been offered: a helpful discussion. I wasn't looking for or expecting more fireworks.tiltbillings wrote:What exactly do you want here?

Re: Taking members seriously
No doubt, Jhana4, and there are times of course when I have done just that. We've all done that, I'm sure, because it's in the nature of life to face those types of situations sometimes. I completely misunderstood the invitation to post in this suggestion box, thinking that in this one case, it woul...

Re: Taking members seriously
I wasn't motivated by self pity so much as a sense that others might have had the same kind of experience here that I've had and that I've seen. I understood Retro's invitation to be this: If I felt there were problems worth addressing and discussing, then I was invited to come here to the suggestio...

As much as I sometimes disagreed with Namdrol, he had some remarkable things to offer. He's still a member here, I believe.

Re: Taking members seriously
No one is telling you do not have legitimate grievances ... Then I misunderstood. I thought that's what I was being told. ... you have gotten a lot of strongly negative feedback here on the Dhamma Wheel and on your blog, which really may be telling you something about how you are going about it. I ...

Re: Taking members seriously
Thank you, Annapurna. But I think this offer is best applied to 'fresh' cases. You're probably right, but I understood Retro's invitation differently: Clearly you feel there are grievances unresolved about how things work here - would it help you to frame each as a suggestion in the Suggestion Box? ...
