Re: Disrespect

There is is this popular place in Paris called the Buddha Bar, where basically people drink alcohol and eat in front of a big Buddha statue. I can't help but find this disrespectful, especially towards Buddhist values. The Buddha statue is just there for exotism... A picture of the place: http://www...

Re: hip pain (bursitis)?

I had a bursitis in a leg once and could not even walk because of the pain. I recovered quickly with medication.
If it is still hurting, I advise you see a doctor. Waiting might make it get worse.

Re: Should I take the Refuge?

The third precept is not about sex before mariage. It means no raping, no taking advantage of someone to have sex, not having sex with someone who would not be able to say no (mentally handicapped people for example). It also means no cheating.

Re: Job Stress, Oy

Meditation alone is not enough I suppose. The objective of meditation is to slow down and stop. If your physical condition allows you, you might want to do a bit of sport. I found out that running twice or three times a week helped me a great deal with managing my stress. From that point you have t...

Re: Religious criticism

Why is it considered taboo to openly criticise another persons religion in most societies but yet perfectly ok to criticise a persons political convictions? It really depends on the culture you live in. In France for example, three main topics are supposed to be avoided when having lunch with other...

Re: Post-Meditation Bliss

Hi Roux, Just like you I'm new to Buddhism and meditation, but what you are telling has happened to me many times too. It is not always just after the meditation but sometimes a couple of hours later that I can feel the effects of that "bliss" as you say: being with an attentive, calm mind...

Re: Jeweler kills a robber, becomes a hero on social network

Yesterday there was a demonstration of about 800 people in Nice, defending the jeweler, saying that it was self-defense. As you say, David, I cannot see why it is not just considered as plain murder ! And now, to add even more ignorance and stupidity to this story, some people are changing their min...

Re: Month 2

I resolve to sit for at least 25 months every morning and evening. Wow, that's a lot ! I skipped many sittings too but I'm back on regular practice. I'm trying to sit for 25 minutes too, like you, weakfocus. I'm also looking forward next saturday, when I will attend a Dhamma talk and Vipa...

Jeweler kills a robber, becomes a hero on social networks

I'm living in Japan now but I'm from France. Apparently there has been a lot of talking about a jeweler who killed one of the guys who just robbed him. What is striking about this story is that lots of people are actually supporting the idea that he was right to do so. I have some friends and even s...

Overcoming anger

Hello everyone, Being mindful of my thoughts I realized that I have a lot of angry thoughts many times a day. I tend to be quickly upset/irritated by small/stupid things (people walking to slowly in front of me,co-workers making mistakes, etc.). It seems I'm lacking patience. I almost always keeps t...
