Quick question re Mahasi Method
....when noting say a noise (birds tweeting outside for instance) at what point do we returning to the abdomen and leave the sound. Its tricky as some sounds don’t wane…they’re sort of ‘there’ – so how do we not notice them anymore and return? <terrible grammar>!

Re: Can you help me work through this?
Hi Myotai, Sorry to hear things don't seem to be going so well.... Thanks for such a kind and considered reply to my post. I think it warrants a reply to your point re not knowing what my practice is. Mainly Mahasi style, sometimes a more Zazen approach (Shikantaza). I sit daily, early morning 5am ...

Can you help me work through this?
Hi everyone, Been a while since I posted. I wonder if you can help me working through a bit of a quandary please? I love the Dhamma….I love the Dharma too < joking >. But its true, I love all forms of Dhamma and can see the benefits in all traditions and schools. However, after some intensive practi...

Negative feelings after meditating on Anicca
Hi, Has anyone experienced a negative outcome after meditating on Impermanence? I have been experiencing a palpable dread and sense of futility as a result. I guess the realisation is there, but now it seems to have sapped some of the enjoyment and pleasure I would normally have experienced from the...

Re: the great Nibbana = annihilation, eternal, or something else thread
If Buddha cannot help you, I cannot. If I am to give cappuccino benefit of the doubt, I would say that his or her emptiness is the Venerable Nāgārjuna's emptiness, which is neither void nor substance, nor any combination of the two, nor something else. Basically any 'stance' at all regardin...

Re: the great Nibbana = annihilation, eternal, or something else thread
As previously explained, I think "not-self" is ambiguous and confusing, since it allows for the possibility of a self "outside" the aggregates. I think "no-self" ( absence of self ) is what the suttas describe - for example "sabbe dhamma anatta", pattica-samu...

Re: the great Nibbana = annihilation, eternal, or something else thread
Nirvana is an everlasting state. I don't have a view either way on this, and I think the suttas are rather ambiguous. But I don't see the relevance of this point, we are discussing whether no-self is the correct conclusion to draw from the teachings, not whether Nibbana is eternal. Hey Spiny, Sorry...
