Re: 3 month meditation retreat ( vipassana ) where?

I remember how I got in, I had my psychologist and Dharma teacher speak with the Goenka center people and she and he both wrote letters on my behalf! This was so long ago I had completely forgotten this part of my story. My Vipassana Mom and Dad, senior teachers worked with me and spoke with my Dhar...

Re: 3 month meditation retreat ( vipassana ) where?

@konchokzopa, yes, the centers are super strict. I almost didn't get in back in the early 90s because I was taking wellbutrin for panic attacks. I had stopped taking the prescription drugs a six months prior to my first retreat. I was able to get in and through the years of serving and sitting seen ...

Re: Purple Planet

Thanks that is very nice of you :D Interesting stuff One of my favorite things to do after the day is over and the stars come out, just sit and watch the starlight dance across the heavens. I love reading about the exploration of space, inner and outer ;-) Hopefully a smile came to your face @purpl...

Re: 3 month meditation retreat ( vipassana ) where?

@ konchokzopa, 45 day course 2014 offered here East Coast, also you may want to check out other Goenka centers. You have to have many 10 day courses done, Satipatthana course work and if I remember correctly letters from your teachers to do long courses. I did it the sneaky way, I served and sat, se...

Purple Planet

@PurplePlanet, You were one of the people who said hello to me when I introduced myself. I just read an article about purple planets and thought you might enjoy "a theory" why purple planets are so special. Purple Planet.jpg Billions of years ago, when microbial life first emerged on Earth...

Re: Getting Intoxicated Without Alcohol

@Bhikkhu Pesala when you put it that way the use of chemicals to make one drunk without the physical side effects, like Cirrhosis of the liver, enlarged heart, pancreas and gallbladder damage does sound helpful. But for me the main problem is the need to get drunk, I grew up around heavy drinkers an...

Re: Growing your own

This is my journey and I am not trying to convert anyone, please do not take what I say personal, I am telling my story. From the Requisites of Enlightenment by Ledi Sayadaw: P 20, Even in the case of hunters and fishermen, it should not be said that they should not practice samatha-vipas sanaa-mana...

Re: Getting Intoxicated Without Alcohol

@Bhikkhu Pesala I wonder if there will be side effects? You know like Equal and NutraSweet, aspartame has a list of dangerous side effects a mile long and it's still marketed as wonderful. I don't trust companies very much regarding caring for customers health over profit, I thinking this is not suc...

Re: Growing your own

@tilt, my chickens eat mice but have a hard time with squirrels that like to raid their nest from time to time. By the way I think you are really funny, wicked sense of humor! I saw a black helicopter today…hahaha How many of us have the opportunity to know our food from seed/birth to in our belly? ...

Re: Growing your own

Some of my chicken's I have eleven and love them dearly. I eat their eggs, their poop grows the veggies we both eat. I hatch a bunch of eggs (120) in the spring and sell the babies to backyard gardeners. I have met some of the coolest people selling my pullets. If you haven't hugged a chicken you ar...
