Difference between Buddha and Arahant

Dear All, I've been thinking about this for sometime and obviously cant get the answer. What was the difference between a Buddha and an Arahant, interms of enlightenment / nibbana. I'm at the opinion that the attainment of nibbana is the same for both Arahant and Buddha; as it is indiscriminate, equ...

Precept of Non-Discriminating (All Encompassing)

Dear All, Dharma Sangha (aka. Buddha Boy from Nepal) has recently asked his attendance to observe 8 moral precepts. One of the main precept is to not discriminate living beings according to their race, religion, caste; which I've found to be pretty interesting and decided to practice it for a few da...

Re: western cynicism/eastern credulity.

Peter, To be honest, from an Eastern side point of view. In the west, where objects are viewed through scientific lenses and more to christianity biased environment; might be the reasons for the different in opinions between us. If you were to look into both Thai and Chinese Buddhism, the amount of ...

Re: Human reborn as Human

Dear Andy, Your term of human being reborn as human is too generalised and should not be compared apple to apple with the sutra, as they are 2 different senario. Human being reborn as human; can and only happen if their merits are strong enough to be so, but not overly strong for they can be reborn ...

Re: No intention = no kamma?

Dear All, I've read this from a book written based on stories of Luang Phor Jaran (Abbot of Wat Ambhavan) which explain the kamma as such : Lets take the example of us trying to killing a tortise. 1. You know it is a tortise (a living being). 2. You intend to turn it over. 3. You know that your acti...

Re: So I gave vegetarianism a try and..

Darren, do Arabs only eat meat and no veggies? What's up with toast or bread, tomatoes, cucumbers, yoghurts, cheese, fresh fruit, and so forth? A lot of things don't have to be cooked....raw is a lot healthier...a friend of mine is bringing lunch with him from home. Don't know, is that an option? M...

Re: So I gave vegetarianism a try and..

On the protein matter, how bout this?

We know a lot of Indians (especially the brahmins) are life time vegetarians. Perhaps someone should test their blood, to see if they really are lack of protein and compare them against the rest of meat eaters.

Re: So I gave vegetarianism a try and..

Hi... I'm not sure bout others.. But for me, I've never felt hungry when I turn to vegetarianism. Why? Hahaha.. because i load myself with a lot of carbo. The carbo keeps you full and they are veg. So it means, if previously I would have 1 plate of rice with chicken strips, i would have 1.5 plate of...
