Feel like I'm brainwashed myself (questioning my parents ethics and my idology)

Hello everyone. My general background is my country is supposedly a Buddhist country, but people here don't know the teachings that much and they only pray to the Mayahana Buddhist deities as gods or something. My parents are from the socialist era (we are not from China or south east asian country)...

Re: Unintentional bad thoughts about Buddha

Hello there, a fellow OCD/Scrupulosity sufferer. I used to have this kind of bad thoughts about Buddha or Buddhist deities OCD (Mahayana side). In my experience, the only thing that worked was just time. When you search for any more reassurance that you're not creating bad karma/kamma itself won't a...

How can we sure of the Buddha's achievement

You know other Indic religions, for example, Jainism thinks that Mahavira attained enlightenment and only his method is true, not other etc. But then Buddhism comes and the Buddha told that his, Mahavira's or other teacher's achievements, is not final enlightenment etc. I mean the Buddha didn't talk...

Rupa and kamadhatu realms don't make sense

In the Brahma-nimantanika Sutta, Mara, who belongs to the kamadhatu, influenced Baka Brahma. It seems like the desire realm deva has authority over Brahma realm. Yes, I know the root of suffering is attachment and that's somehow linked to internal Mara, but still this buddhist cosmology/realm doesn'...

Re: Is it a schism making action?

What about buddhologists and academic scholars? Scholars are not monks, and people like me find scholars are more reliable, at least historically and logically speaking, than monks. Can scholars make a schism because people trust them, especially in this age of science and technology? It seems like...

Re: Is it a schism making action?

You should examine the reason behind going to this group to say it. What is the reason exactly? The reason is this group is a new group and created for the Indian Buddha series/Zee tv series, which was aired in my country in this year for the Vesak day that which has become one of the official holi...

Re: Is it a schism making action?

Let's be logical Let's. The logical thing would be to learn the meanings of saṅgharuci and saṅghabheda by looking at what Buddhist texts have to say about them, rather than naively assuming that their meanings will be simply whatever notions happen to pop up in our heads when we see their English t...

Re: Is it a schism making action?

Or should I think that it's been at least 2500 years after the parinibbana of the Buddha, and over the course of history, various schools, vehicles, and branches of buddhism have already taken place. So since a monk or a layperson is not creating a whole new school or branch of buddhism, it is not a...

Re: Is it a schism making action?

Let's be logical, what makes a monk so different than a lay person? I think in buddhism there is no higher being/God to judge people like he makes a heavy kamma because he is a monk, and that person makes a not heavy kamma because he is a lay person. So since there is no one to judge us except kamma...

Re: Is it a schism making action?

But what if a layperson gives an idea to a monk? Like what if my post about pali canon makes some monk hesitant about their branch and because of my post they quarrel one another? I believe in dependent origination that one cause can lead to another cause, etc. :namaste:

Is it a schism making action?

Hello guys, I used to be a mahayanist, but now I think I belong to no specific school of buddhism. But I believe the Pali canon to be likely words of the Buddha more than any other sutras and commentaries. I want to write in mahayana oriented group in Facebook about various concepts like Arahant vs ...
