Re: Samsara...the film...

Great movie. For me it was an hour and a half meditation on (mostly) dukkha. The Tibetan mandala part was my favorite anicca reminder.

How does bhavanga relate to samatha meditation?

While reading Sayalay Susila's "Unraveling the Mysteries of Mind and Body Through Abhidhamma" I noticed this sentence: "New practitioners, when developing their concentration on the meditation object, owing to the weakness of mindfulness, sometimes let their minds fall into the bhavan...

Re: Starting Mahasi-style again - questions

The way I've been sometimes instructed is what Bhikkhu Pesala said: in the gaps between the in and out breaths you can note sitting and touching. There are different ways of implementing this "primary object"/"secondary object" approach. I think most people pick a primary object...

Access to Insight going static in January

The homepage of accesstoinsight.org mentions it is no longer going to be updated when John Bullitt retires. Does anyone know why a handoff or open-sourcing of the site isn't planned?

Re: Bhikkhu Bodhi's Samyutta small price drop on Amazon

Wow. That's a wonderful resource, thanks santa100! Just in case the publisher is worried about "unfair use" or is unsupportive of the project - I am still going to buy the hardcopy...I would imagine I'm not alone.

Re: Bhikkhu Bodhi's Samyutta small price drop on Amazon

I hope that eventually after Wisdom has recovered its costs, made its profits, etc. that they will allow the Bodhi translations to be freely available online (like Pariyatti has started doing with some of its classics). I guess the Kindle version will make that more difficult though.

Bhikkhu Bodhi's Samyutta small price drop on Amazon

I've been waiting to buy The Connected Discourses of the Buddha: A Translation of the Samyutta Nikaya [Hardcover]. Today I see it has gone down US $3. :jumping:

Re: Best way to learn Pali?

Another question - can anybody comment on Bhikkhu Bodhi's lectures accompanying Gair & Karunatillake's grammar? I've heard mixed reviews but I'm wondering what people here think. I highly recommend Bhikkhu Bodhi's lectures. He adds interesting notes to the sometimes dry content, corrects the bo...

Re: Shortage of Pali Canon (English Wisdom translation) books?

I contacted Wisdom, they said the Samyutta is "has been reprinted and is now available for purchase" and Majjhima " is with the printer now and will be available within two to three weeks". No mention of Digha.

Shortage of Pali Canon (English Wisdom translation) books?

I've noticed that Amazon and others don't have many (or any) copies of The Digha, Samyutta or Majjhima books in stock. Anyone know why?

Re: Bodhi watch... or waiting for the Anguttara

Ah yes, but are the end notes hot-linked to the text?? I do love the kindle but I don't like the pain-in-the-backside routine of going to an end note and back again. kind regards, If I'm interpreting your question correctly, I would say yes because the Samyutta Kindle version had all its amazing en...
