I wish you the best, though serious depression doesn't go away too easily, find some good friends(both here a...

Re: Back to back Goenka retreats
The one close to my area will only let you register one at a time, so the newest will cancel out the previous one. This is more likely because there are so many people on the waiting list waiting to attend. I've seen old students who were serving a course then immediately attended the next one as a ...

Re: Consciousness as Nutriment - A Question
I'm probably not the best to explain here, but the part bolded in the quote you provided is referring to a citta called patisandhi (rebirth consciousness), it's function is to take an object just at the moment of death (which in this case would be sign of kamma, kamma, or sign of destiny) and condit...

Re: Involuntary memories
Interesting - so the whole process belongs to the "round of kamma" even the moments of the bare thought itself - and in the case of a painful memory it would be unwholesome? Almost every dhamma belongs to the round of kamma, if you mean bare thought as in vipassana, yes those objects take...

Re: First and Third Noble Truth
hello kalama, here's something you may find of interest, it's taken from the Udana, (Chapter 3/Nanada, sec. 1, kamma): So was there heard by me on one occasion when the Lord was staying as Savatthi, in Anathapandika's Resort in Jeta's Grove. And on that occasion, a certain monk was seated not far fr...

Re: Difficult moral issues and attachment
On reflection I see that trying to equate kamma or sila with ethics is a mistake. I wouldn't write it off as a mistake, the Buddha taught a path of blamelessness, so kamma, sila and ethics under the Buddha's guidance should go hand in hand quite well. I'm not exactly sure how the situation would be...

Re: Difficult moral issues and attachment
In my opinion I guess you would just have to weigh the good with the bad and take one for the team! The Buddha taught that helping people to abstain from unwholesome deeds is beneficial as well, by not giving rise for the opportunity for another person to kill your intentions can be filled with mett...
