Re: Cooking with alcohol?

I do not have an attachment to alcohol. Nor am I conditioned into liking it from years of drinking small amounts until I can drink larger ones and not mind the flavor. All I am coming from is from a position of flavor. I am extremely sensitive to flavors and to me alcohol is just like any other spic...

Re: Cooking with alcohol?

Definitely, if you feel you will be tempted by having alcohol in your house, then best avoid having it there. But for those who do not have this problem, well, it's just not a problem. To try to characterise this as akin to "associating with drunks", is just a tad hyperbolic and irrational...

Re: Cooking with alcohol?

I think this has become a bit off topic. I'm nowhere near as knowledgeable as these experienced forum members, but here's what I think. Adding rat poisoning or heroin to food could hurt you. :stirthepot: A bit of alcohol would not. There is absolutely no evidence showing that alcohol is bad for your...

Re: Cooking with alcohol?

It's not clear how one can deliberately put alcohol into food just to give it a particular taste, and yet act in line with the above instruction on how to regard food. Condiments and salt are not necessary and still you use it  I don't see salt too much different from wine, both are used to ...

Re: the great vegetarian debate

..... I don't feel self-righteous when I'm munching on my quorn fillets - I just know I'm doing right. Praise the Lord. ....and pass the egg-free mayo..... Took me a while to remember what Quorn fillets were. Never tried them, I eat Gardein mostly. And, yes to the egg free mayo!

Re: Basic Buddhist Philosophy

Hey everyone. I am searching for some books on basic or intro into Buddhist philosophy. I've read some things on Mindstreaming or "stream of conciousness" and would like to learn more about it. Thanks. Are you talking about philosophy or like teachings and things? Meaning, you could have ...

Re: What do I do? Questions, questions, questions...

A bit nervous dont want to ask directions in fear of looking stupid or worrying about getting lost and looking stupid but its exciting and a bit scary all at the same time. Kind Regards Paul. :console: Zentruckdriver, this describes me perfectly, haha. It's all just a bit scary, unknown and foreign...

What do I do? Questions, questions, questions...

So, I'm very new to Buddhism, and have been looking around this website, and the introductory resources, and I have learned a lot. But, I don't really know what to do now. I've learned about the 4 noble truths, noble 8-fold path, 10 hindrances and paramitas, and other different things. But, now I fe...

Re: Cooking with alcohol?

"I love to cook with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food!" :jumping: Yes, I can relate to that panang! These days however it mostly goes into the cooking. If I use 1 cup out of a bottle, I freeze the remainder in 1 cup portions in jars for when I will cook with it again. This ...

Re: the great vegetarian debate

I realize this has been discussed in a great amount already, but I thought I'd just give my thoughts. Sorry in advance is I sound preachy. I am a strict vegan. I do not eat meat, fish, dairy, eggs, honey, or any animal products or by products. I know what even minute animal products are, and try to ...

Re: Cooking with alcohol?

Thank you for all of the replies! As I said I'm new, and just wanted to check. I realize that not all of the alcohol cooks out, and depending on how much you use, a small amount can just "take the edge off", not necessarily make you drunk or heedless. My main concern was "A little lea...

Cooking with alcohol?

Hi, everybody, I'm very new to Buddhism, and am working my way through all of it. I know the 5th precept is undertaking to abstain from taking intoxicating drugs or alcohol. But, what about cooking with alcohol? I know you can substitute, but many times there is absolutely no way to mimic the flavor...
