Re: Desire for Relationship and for Lack of Relationship
Hello everyone! I'm facing a dilemma, one that's pretty much been the main focus of my life for over a decade. I'm sure many of us here can relate to it, so I'm bringing this up here in the hopes that I can find some perspectives and advice. Thank you for your kindness. Until I had come across the ...

Mindfulness
In Satipathana Sutta , the Buddha talks about Contemplating on Body, Feelings, Mind and Mind-objects (4 Noble truths, 3 marks of existence etc). In the initial few steps the Buddha talks about knowing Breath - Long and Short and calming the body. Is this step needed or directly could we proceed to c...

Re: Giving up....
Hello everyone, Things have come to a head for me now. I have been really struggling with my practice now for some time. For the last 6 months, longer if I think about it. I arise before dawn, sit and do nothing more than ruminate, unable to focus for more than a few measly seconds before lapsing i...

Re: Anapanasati
Well, think of the third instruction for the first tetrad. Even though you start with long & short breaths, the whole body is brought into awareness as the practice proceeds, and in short order, so "without considering any other part of the body" is not advised. Have a look at SN 54.6...

Mindfulness meditation
After a long break (4-6 months) I have started Anapanasati again. Right now I am restricting to about 1 hour to 2 hours a day preferably in the morning. I have a few questions about the technique: The Buddha has mentioned that there are 4 ways mindfulness can be observed:- 1. Of Body 2. Of Feelings ...

Re: First Noble truth
Entire life is Suffering Not suffering, but dukkha. Dukkha means that life is not satisfactory at its very basic level -- and this includes suffering and pain as well. As one unpacks the sutta discussions of change and dukkha, we see that life is not satisfactory to hang on to, being empty of any l...

Re: Am I continually generating new Rebirths?
Hello. We can apply this simile to the case of rebirth. The body of the candle is like the physical body of the person. The wick might be compared to the sense faculties that function as the support for the process of consciousness. The particles of oxygen are like the sense objects and the flame i...

Re: Why Did Siddhartha Gautama Split from Hinduism?
Hello, Why did Siddartha Gautama originally split from Hinduism? :thanks: Corey Hinduism is a term coined by Persians to people living in India in the 12 century AD (Buddhism was dead in India by then). What is modern Hinduism today is a mix of various cultural and historical traditions and beliefs...

However those that have Stream entry and more spread the message. its a duty for them to spread the message. I don't understand your obsession with stream entry as a minimum requirement in this thread and others. Where, in which sutta is it stated that stream entry is a requirement to teach the Dha...
