Re: Is it bad kamma to watch cinema movie online?
I've read in some articles that piracy, instead of negatively affecting the film industry has had a positive impact. For example, game of thrones director didn't have a problem with it as the extra hype that came about as a result of more people having access to the series who otherwise wouldn't, wa...

Re: Is Arahant a five aggregate?
Hi 2pennyworth, Quote:"Surely a constant loud noise is only unpleasant if there is subjective interpretation?" There is some flexibility here. As in the example of music which you give. But I do not think that anyone enjoys the sound of a pneumatic road drill. Still less would anyone enjo...

Re: Is Arahant a five aggregate?
Hi 2pennyworth, I wrote that in a hurry without much thought. I was thinking of a continuous noise. A better example to take may be a toothache. Regards, Vincent. How would the duration make a difference? (Just seeking clarification) Say the difference between a sudden sensitivity to a sugary food/...

Re: Is Arahant a five aggregate?
The Arahant still experiences pleasant and unpleasant sensations, for example a loud noise could be unpleasant. Hi Vincent Could you attempt to be more specific here? If possible. How would it be unpleasant? Say, a loud noise occurred, would it be unpleasant in terms of how the body/mind momentaril...

"Pain", but with no self who suffered the pain? Just strong sensations - arising due to conditions - that were a distraction? 'Strong sensations' and 'distraction' being different from 'pain' and 'suffering' ?tiltbillings wrote: What was the Buddha feeling when he rested because his back hurt?

Re: samatha replacing sense pleasures
Happiness and tranquility born of seclusion is wholesome. Craving is easier to "work with" due to the ease of investigation / clarity / collectedness bought about by the wholesome states. That level of clarity / collectedness is usually absent whilst indulging in sense pleasures driven by ...

Re: Anyone who has seen rebirth ?.
Endless, perpetual rounds of rebirth sounds pretty nightmarish to me, particularly the lower realms of existence. But impermance offers relief. At least the hell realm isn't permanent; for eternity. And the possibility of liberation is even more of a potential relief. (Fire unbound, or fire blown ou...

Re: Anyone who has seen rebirth ?.
I think it might be worth also pointing out that in terms of mind moments, rebirth into one of the six realms of existence refers to mind states, like being driven by desire and want for more, or necessity , or suffering in hell realm due to past regtetful actions, for example. The optimum realms fo...

Re: Anyone who has seen rebirth ?.
... I find it offensive when someone asks legitimate question and instead of proper answer he/she receives preaching about his lack of confidence. My attempt to defuse the tension here with a touch of humor : I find your lack of faith disturbing Darth Vader: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=11Ee02WLxGk...

Re: Anyone who has seen rebirth ?.
There seems to be a lot of confusion about between the difference of reincarnation and rebirth. Excerpt from MN 38: I have heard that on one occasion the Blessed One was staying in Sāvatthī, at Jeta's Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika's park. Now on that occasion this pernicious viewpoint (diṭṭhigata) had arisen...

Re: Dropping non-duality
The Buddha taught the all . I did say all inclusive God tilt, not just all . But maybe you weren't picking holes in what I said or did not say. No hole picking. Just making a point as to why advaita is not really congruent with the Dhamma. Oh, that's what I suspected tilt, sorry for the false accus...

Re: Dropping non-duality
Direct experience of the flying spaghetti monster, I don't know! Direct experience of the present arisings and passings. But I concede , it appears true that if one has an angle on this, all inclusive God or whatever, it's never going to be just as is. Anyway, gotta shoot now prior engagements, it's...

Re: Dropping non-duality
But your supposition seems to be under the presumption (sorry, I don't know how well versed you are in modern application of avaita practice) that it's a belief system, that people are satisfied with adopting the belief. End of story. Not a way to engage people with their awareness, instead of thei...
