Re: What precisely is the problem with the so-called "three lives" model?

What precisely is the problem with the so-called "three lives" model?  Let's try to state the same question in different terms, perhaps in this way things become more clear. What precisely is the problem to "understand" the second noble truth as "three lives" model?  “A...

Re: Darwinism and the Dhamma

The only strong evidence which approaches certainty in dialectic about evolution is that there is tendency to take what is uncertain for being certain, in other words to take one's own faith as verifable truth. Ven Nanamoli Thera from the essay Consciousness and Being: How many more people in histor...

Re: Darwinism and the Dhamma

Nanamoli Thera: I met a daddy-long-legs today, but not quite the kind one is used to. Though its body and wings were the ordinary size and shape, its legs were a full 3” long, thin as 100% cotton, with a baroque curve, and clothed in black-and-white-banded football stockings. It was like one of tho...

Re: Darwinism and the Dhamma

Re: "Clearing the Path Continues": Ven. Anālayo's critique of Ven. Ñāṇavīra's Notes

In brief, if the Buddha never talked about it, if he intentionally avoided it, if he was unfamiliar with the idea as far as all modern scholarship is concerned, if it only surfaced later and actually ended up causing all kinds of problems that then had to be reconciled (such as that of the Bhavanga...

Sensory experience in meditative attainments

Since someone told me that references regarding sensory experience in meditation which I gave him were useful, perhaps they could be useful for others. Even if such data is already available here in certain topic, it doesn't matter since perhaps someone has some suggestions how to resolve an ambigui...

Re: Darwinism and the Dhamma

Evolutionary thinking is like reverse alchemy: It turns gold into lead. And this process is evident in religion, education, and science itself. ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE THE ICONS OF EVOLUTION ARE NOT TEXTBOOK MISTAKES. THEY are used to promote a grand materialistic story even after scientists have shown t...

Re: Was the New Testament copied from Buddhist scriptures?

«It seems they read the Kalama Sutta that way -- "Do your own thing, and that will be enough".»

Kind of instruction: "don't obey any instructions", and they do obey it.

Re: Darwinism and the Dhamma

SURVIVAL OF THE FAKEST or Zombi Science Description In 2000, biologist Jonathan Wells took the science world by storm with Icons of Evolution, a book showing how biology textbooks routinely promote Darwinism using bogus evidence—icons of evolution like Ernst Haeckel’s faked embryo drawings and peppe...

Re: Was the New Testament copied from Buddhist scriptures?

It is still by one's effort that one attains noble status. One's own effort is undoubtedly neccesry to understand Dhamma, but it is insufficient since without information from outside given by one who already is ariya, there is no knowledge towards what aim actually such effort should be directed. ...

Re: The unanswerable questions

I believe once we understand the Paticcasamuppada, we wouldn't ask such questions. Do you believe the opposite to be true? does contemplating such questions bring the practitioner closer to understand Paticcasamuppada? No. for wise people, friends, are inquisitive... Re: Was the New Testament copied from Buddhist scriptures?

This is why, in Buddhism there are mundane and supramundane knowledge. Those who attain supramundane knowledge are few. The notion of "little dust in their eyes" explains very little as to what they have in common. It is another form of aristocracy nonetheless. It is still by one's effort...
