Nirrtix is my name (I know it is odd having the name of the Hindu goddess of death and corruption as a handle on a Buddhist forum, but it is my gamer handle, that I have grown attached to. I actually got the name from Stargate and threw an "X" on Nirrti.)
Ok let me start out by saying that since 2005 I have believed for the most part in Buddhist philosphy. Granted I am kinda the Buddhist equivalent of a Christian who does not goto church. I have been to a Hindu Temple more than I have been to a Buddhist Temple.
In 2005 my friends introduced me to Buddhism due to my lack of faith and disagreements with Christian philosophy. Buddhism filled many of the gaps etc.. I always identified as Theravada even though I still believed in "god" even now I do not claim to know there is no god I think that would be a stretch to say I know something I do not really know, kinda like saying I know there is one, when I only believe it because I was told to all my life.
I do have many questions for those wiser than me here, but I will save that for a post that is not my intro
thank you,
Nirrtix

Thank you! I hope that I can learn some here. It is hard to access a Theravada Temple here. I may go to a Zen temple nearby. I am not sure why there are so few Theravada Temples in Houston Texas.

That would be worth trying, maybe get some meditation instruction. People here might be able to give some advice on finding a Theravada group, or you might find this site helpful: http://www.buddhanet.info/wbd/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Nirrtix wrote: I may go to a Zen temple nearby.

Have you consulted Buddhanet's world directory? There seem to be about half a dozen Theravadin establishments currently listed in Houston:

That might be worth investigating, I am not sue why all the Theravada temples are so far from here. Seems like all of them are north side of Houston.Spiny Norman wrote:That would be worth trying, maybe get some meditation instruction. Welcome!
To avoid all evil, to cultivate good, and to cleanse one's mind — this is the teaching of the Buddhas.
