Re: 18th January virtual strike....
I think it's a good thing that a large and popular site like Wikipedia is going to shut down tomorrow. SOPA has to be stopped!
Let it come. Let it be. Let it go.
Re: 18th January virtual strike....
Thanks for your suggestion Fede.
I haven't had a chance to discuss it with David Snyder as yet but to be honest, it doesn't have my support.
I tend to believe there is far greater efficacy if individual US-based members write to their representatives and non-US members write to their ministers for foreign affairs to exert pressure on the US political system to halt the passage of the Bill.
I also think that in the scheme of things Dhamma Wheel is 'small potatoes' and that if we were to shut down for the day it would in all probability go unnoticed except for our members. What we do here by providing access to the Dhamma to those who are interested and providing inspiration and companionship on the path for practitioners is far more valuable than to be involved in political activity that has questionable benefits.
And by saying that I do not in any way seek to diminish member's genuine concerns regarding SOPA.
If, however, there is a growing consensus within the mod team and David wishes to participate then we may get involved.
kind regards,
Ben

Re: 18th January virtual strike....
Thank you Ben, succinct and to the point.
I take your reasoning on the 'small potatoes' site.... but you do the humble spud a great injustice!
I'm glad though, we will still be able to take refuge here, from the daily grind of the wwweb..... good to know the doors are open.
Thanks!
