"Indonesian police have been put on alert at the Borobudur Temple after a threat against the world’s biggest Buddhist temple and UNESCO World heritage Site was made on Facebook by Islamic State supporters."

It's unsettling how the Islamic State's (IS) message seems to be radicalizing some Muslims internationally, instead of just within their local sphere of influence in the Middle East. The documentary I linked to in another thread features a jihadist who came from Belgium with his young son to fight for the IS. Some others were from North Africa. And the recent video showing the execution of the American journalist had an executioner with a British accent.
Peace,
James

Perhaps we'll see a new wave of Jihad that could rival the middle ages... Who knows? It's fascinating to say the least.

While there are many dangers in the world, the threat from Iraq stands alone

ISIL feels different, though. Have you seen their propaganda video?

View it here. (extremely graphic)

They brazenly murder tens of thousands without remorse, with absolute faith their actions are sanctioned by God. I had some sympathy with Al-Queda and the Taliban before, in the sense that their actions could be justified as a reaction against Western aggression, but I cannot sympathize with ISIL. There is no doubt they pose a genuine threat.

Let's hope the temple don't suffer the same fate as the "Bamiyan Buddha"...

Homage to the Buddha
Thus indeed, is that Blessed One: He is the Holy One, fully enlightened, endowed with clear vision and virtuous conduct, sublime, the Knower of the worlds, the incomparable leader of men to be tamed, the teacher of gods and men, enlightened and blessed.

Homage to the Teachings
The Dhamma of the Blessed One is perfectly expounded; to be seen here and now; not delayed in
time; inviting one to come and see; onward leading (to Nibbana); to be known by the wise, each for himself.

Not sure why you consider this post to be a red herring.

Just kidding!

But seriously, what was the point of that post? What was your message? Why did you quote McCarthy? And in your own words please, if you don't mind.

The point is that we are always creating new demons to justify our positions. Or demons are always being created to justify positions.
