On a plane from London to Winnepeg I read, to my horror, the May 18, 1970 Time cover story about the shootings at Kent State
that happened while I was in London. I had been in Britian for a month to visit with Buddhists, there being to none to visit with in northern Minnesota. It was a wonderful trip in terms of who I got to meet and all, but I was totally out of touch with the news during that time. Had I known about Kent State while I was there I might not have come back. It is interesting after all these years how evocative the memories of that time still are.

There is freedom from birth, freedom from becoming, freedom from making, freedom from conditioning. If there were not this freedom from birth, freedom from becoming, freedom from making, freedom from conditioning, then escape from that which is birth, becoming, making, conditioning, would not be known here. -- Ud 80
