Hi MP, I thought you would be still partying, celebrating your birthday!
Have a great sleep and take some comfort that they're native to Assam, not Portugal.
kind regards,

Ben

And here I thought it was going to be a bit about all the lovely spiders of Australia.

Of all the so-called 'pests' I like spiders. They don't live in herds / colonies and in general they tend to live alone. They are usually as afraid of us as we are of them and will run for cover when they see us. They don't eat our wood beams (like termites do) or our food crumbs. And they eat insects which are in general more of a pest to us.

At our home we never kill spiders and rarely even escort them out of the house, but then again none of our spiders look the ones in this thread.

I like English garden spiders which grow fairly large and look rather nice - like beige and brown speckled crabs. I don't mind having one on my hand at all.

However, the 2 huge black spiders living in my garden shed are a different matter altogether and I keep a respectful distance from them !

Here's a garden spider removing a piece of grass from its web.
