My wife and I are not Buddists, but very much respect many of the teachings of the Dalai Lama. We are considering giving our soon to be born son the middle name Tenzin, in honor of the Dalai Lama. Is this frowned upon? We obviously don't want to do this if it would be insulting to Buddhists. Thanks!

As far as I know it's not frowned upon. Tibetans have names that, in general, are holy names, or the meaning is something holy. For example, Ngawang is another name for Manjushri, suposedly the bodhisattva of wisdom.

But if you want a confirmation, contact www.dharmawheel.net, the sister site of this forum, that focuses on other traditions than Theravada, namely, Tibetan buddhism.
And the Blessed One addressed the bhikkhus, saying: "Behold now, bhikkhus, I exhort you: All compounded things are subject to vanish. Strive with earnestness!"

Ah - thanks for the pointer. I will definitely check with the other forum.
