Post by purple planet »

Israel's first prime minister david ben gurion and buddhism - here is a talk of him with ven Nyanaponika Thera

http://wrap.warwick.ac.uk/3141/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

i didnt read it actually only a few small parts of it - i think i should stop wasting time and meditate more - but it might interest some of you who are in the lounge - and allready wasting their time here :lol:

(i might read it later when my mindfulness will fail again (98% chance) as it did now and thats how i found this in the first place)

Thank PP.
Ben Gurion and his entourage also visited Burma in 1961 and attended a seminar on Buddhism by Sayagi U Ba Khin at IMC (Rangoon) Yangon.
I have a copy of the talk "The Real Values of True Buddhit Meditation"when I visited IMC two years ago but don't know whether its available online.
kind regards,

Ben

Thanks PP,

It's interesting that Ven Nyanaponika is usually referred to simply as German, [e.g. here], omitting the fact that he was Jewish (who, luckily, was able to leave early enough).

There is more detail here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nyanaponika_Thera" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; which seems to have slightly different dates than the article.

Ironically, he, along with Ven Nyanatiloka, was interred by the British in India during the second world war. The preface to Ven Nyanatiloka's Buddhist Dictionary lists "Central Internment Camp Dehra-Dun, India" as his address.
