Thanks. :)

I want to share another, although I don't think it as good:

Bhagava

You spoke, and set the wisest god to rights.
And when in Death’s great power, it’s to you
his mind will turn: the one of keenest sight
who turned away from throne and power due
to him -- hard truths were known to be right views
for all who want that ease of mind sublime,
and hard to see, yet lasting just like time
itself. And though your bowl did blow as dust
before their Christ had wept, I must sing rhyme
to honor you, the Blessed in whom I trust.

Dear Members,

You know?? My good deed pays back!! I always let Sarah borrow my DVD movies often, so she told me
that BlockBuster movie-rental place going out of business..special sale..75%-80% off all DVDs. I dropped
everything...grabbed my car keys..jumped into the car ..drove to BlockBuster 5 mins from my house...I
was in heaven!!..I bought 39 DVD movies with famous stars that I like!!

I'm gonna be busy watching movies everyday..A beautiful song for you guys.

The wonder of Phra Gathas

Girl school
Teacher gave us each
A book of Buddha Prayer songs
We had to look in the book and prayed
After school..before going home..every Friday
Very soon I learned every word by heart
I thought because I loved to pray
I felt so peaceful and gay
My heart not swayed

In college
I went to a funeral
They gave me a Gathas-book
Said that if I chanted days and nights
No harms would ever get to me all my life
The great gatha Yod-Phra-Gan-Tipitaka
And the magic gatha Chinnabunchorn
I chanted them faithfully
They were like melody

Tep taught
Me how to drive
When I was 16..so excite
I drove to Pattaya Beach with delight
I drove back home in Bangkok,no accident in sight
I must tell you whenever I wanted to drive
Especially when I was by myself
I always prayed... 'Buddho'
Buddhas love me I know

In Ohio
I was scared to drive
I learned to cope with my fright
I drove in Thailand, America, Canada
During snow-blizzard,stormy-rain..days or nights
Up to now... I never get into accident
Even once..miracle happens..right?
May be these Phra Gathas might
Protect me all my life

The Three Birthrights

One’s birthright is aging,
no one can escape this fate.
One may be born of high status;
rich, beautiful, powerful,
but even one of earthly stardom
fails to compare to the Accomplished One.

One’s birthright is sickness,
no one can escape this fate.
High tech medical care,
right eating, staying fit,
but even the advanced athlete
fails to compare to the Awakened One.

One’s birthright is death,
no one can escape this fate.
All which has become integrated
must eventually disintegrate.
No doctor or saint, not even the gods
can compare to the Knower of the World.

Each of these,
the three birthrights, three curses of being,
the Blessed One surpassed.
The final body yet endured all,
until the Buddha’s parinibbana,
henceforth no birth shall ever be known.

Saffron Crocus flowers
Image

*******************
Saffron is the dried yellow stigmas
From a small purple crocus
Each flower provides only three stigmas
Hand-picked and then dried..like dust

An extremely labor-intensive process
225,000 stigmas to make one pound of saffron
Making saffron the most expensive spice in the world
Saffron is native to the Mediterranean..I learn

Most imported saffron comes from Spain
flavoring for cheeses, pastry, rice
Matches well with chicken, curries, fish, lamb, mussels
Iran now world most production of saffron spice

You may buy 'saffron rice' in a small package
Add 1 more cup of rice with 4 cups of water
Mix them in your automatic rice cooker
You will get beautiful yellow saffron rice 15 minutes later

Mix 1 spoon saffron with shrimps,mussels and seafish
Cook them well in a pot with butter..add some salt
You'll get a nice lunch of saffron rice with seafood
Oh.. let me tell you..taste so.. so good!!

Absolute Release

Many beings drowning in the great ocean.
Minds are swayed by the perturbing motion.
Invariably, lacking a means of flotation.
Responding to stress with a great commotion.

Except when secluded, “on the cushion.”
Quietness, concentration, is the solution.
This simple vehicle provides a means of locomotion.
Capable of bringing all beings to final fruition.

Even communion with gods will cease.
The Buddha taught the only true peace.
Life, love, possessions, only on lease.
Nibbana, the Unconditioned, the absolute release.

Dear Hickersonia
Your poems..so profound
I must confess I've not found
Sotapatti I'm looking for right now
I'm only a beginner.. looking for peace
I know Life/love/possessions, only on lease
Someday my Tep/Sirikanya.. will disappear
Including kalayanamittas I love so dear
But I will not be drowned in tears
Everyday I'm wishing to be near
My Buddhas..so sincere

-------
Today is the first-quarter moon Uposatha Day
I promise myself my 8 Precepts will not sway
I'll be true to Buddhas in everyway
I want 100% on this Uposatha Day

Love your poems :heart:

On the Path

Daily I watch the tendrils of craving
which all too often plague my mind.
I am practicing the means of paving
the leaving of these things behind.

My identity, a length of iron chain
wrapped around me as a tether.
May it never again cause me such pain!
My goal: to sever this fetter.

So convincing is the Dhamma he taught!
Such liberation is not fake.
While the bonds of becoming remain taute,
mindfully, certainly t’will break.

Pure by means of confession; without fault,
never having reason to hide.
Until all defilement comes to a halt,
must always relinquish all pride.

All things set aside, entering the stream,
now my strongest aspiration.
Fighting the high-tide, a recurring theme,
until final maturation.

Preta

As void as drum, his tummy ached,
while spindly fingers bathed in drink
by altar set for him who’s draped
in ocher stone, and does not blink.

To ease this thirst would make his mind
as void as drum. His tummy ached,
while fingers bathed and lips confined
thin throat to gut, grey-pumpkin shaped.

“Now don’t forget,” an old voice scraped.
His pimples raised; he’d thought the room
as void as drum. His tummy ached.
The grandson finally broke the gloom:
“May ghosts now feast on merit made!”

Then fingers left from bowl, escaped,
while we should pray his place has stayed
as void as drum, where once he’d ached.

~~~
The challenge was to write from the perspective of some animal or creature.
Greetings,
I will compile a small PDF file of poems and post it here in the near future.
SAMADHI
There is no guarantee
that you will ever come back
if you follow
the bright light.
I wrote that when a woman asked about a bright light she was seeing in meditation.
