A bit unbalanced and extreme. I wonder if this was a cultic group of "Buddhist"? There will always be other religions... o.O

There's a lot of extremism in Sri Lanka on both sides of the coin, it's been that way for a very long time, and clearly - is in no hurry to moderate.

Unfortunately, self immolation is nothing new in Buddhism.

Homage to the Buddha
Thus indeed, is that Blessed One: He is the Holy One, fully enlightened, endowed with clear vision and virtuous conduct, sublime, the Knower of the worlds, the incomparable leader of men to be tamed, the teacher of gods and men, enlightened and blessed.

Homage to the Teachings
The Dhamma of the Blessed One is perfectly expounded; to be seen here and now; not delayed in
time; inviting one to come and see; onward leading (to Nibbana); to be known by the wise, each for himself.

Yes - I had heard of Mahayana and Vajrayana practitioners and monks self-immolating before - but never Theravada Bhikkhus.

I think it shows wrong view - delusion.

Agree. Deluded Theravada practitioners are different; they don't burn themselves, they tend to burn the mosque.

I find it absolutely fascinating that these monks are self immolating in a struggle to maintain the status quo. It is a fundamental flaw in their thinking as the most basic of the Buddha's teachings was: change is inevitable. And yet these monks refute that core understanding of samsura.
