Has anyone heard of....???

An old friend of mine got back in contact with me the other day, we were chatting and Buddhism came up.
She said that she has been going to a retreat in Worthing, West Sussex, well.. she said "Have come across the Brahma Kumaris? They are a worldwide organisation, with a retreat here in worthing. Their philosophies are similiar to those of Buddhism and they see meditation as the key. Just curious to see if anyone else has heard of them and their teachings..."

Personally i've never heard of it but it does sound similar in name to 'Brahmas', i believe it was established about seventy years ago.

A twist on buddhism maybe? Something else?

Interesting, but they lost my interest right in the first sentence:

" [1] millenarian[2][3] new religious movement (NRM) of Indian origin whose teachings are based on practises involving both mediumship and channelling"

Beliefs
In 1952, after a 14 year period of retreat during which the Brahma-kumaris published numerous pamphlets, newspaper articles and wrote letters to important national and international figures, a more structured form of teaching began to be offered to the public by way of a seven lesson course.[11] The movement does not associate itself with Hinduism [45] but projects itself as a vehicle for spiritual teaching rather than a religion.[6][46]

The BKWSU teaches that this world is beyond redemption [47] and so the ultimate aim of Brahma Kumari followers is to gain a high status as a royalty in a soon to be heaven on earth, a member of an elite 108 or 160,000 who will be the rulers of a heaven on earth, and to create subjects for it. [48] A heaven on earth which is to follow a total and imminent "Destruction" of the present day world including a Nuclear holocaust and death of of the rest of humanity. This high status is achieved by supporting the movement, obeying its rules, engaging in proselytizing activities [49] and attempting to follow "almost inhumanly high standards" of "purity".

They seem to have similar ideas as Jehovah Witnesses (but with an indian flavour lol)

Questioned how dinosaurs fit within a 5,000 year Cycle of Time BK Neville Hodgkinson, a former scientific correspondent for an English national newspaper, questioned the existence of dinosaurs on the basis of the lack of bones that have been found whilst another BK follower argued that dinosaurs exist in a parallel space-time dimension and because of a warp hole end up in this dimension. [95]

 :cookoo:

questioned the existence of dinosaurs on the basis of the lack of bones that have been found
