Bhikkhus, if you develop and make much this one thing,
it invariably leads to weariness, cessation, appeasement, realization and extinction.
What is it? It is recollecting the Enlightened One.
If this single thing is recollected and made much,
it invariably leads to weariness, cessation, appeasement, realization and extinction.

If we're not careful we can catch such things sometimes. Luckily there's a clinic where one can get checked for such diseases, and treatment is available. A good reminder to practice safe spirituality.

Although our desire to grow is genuine and pure, it often gets mixed with lesser motivations, including... the belief that the spiritual path will remove our suffering

well, I do have such a "lesser" motivation. I must be suffering from "confused motivation", then.

SPIRITUAL HAZARD ALERT!!!
He turns his mind away from those phenomena, and having done so, inclines his mind to the property of deathlessness: 'This is peace, this is exquisite — the resolution of all fabrications; the relinquishment of all acquisitions; the ending of craving; dispassion; cessation; Unbinding.'
(Jhana Sutta - Thanissaro Bhikkhu translation)

Whats nice tho is that if ones practice fails to give one insight into the problem, life itself has a way of dispensing antidotes to those lost in their own nether regions. ;)
