Well it is my first day without cigarettes. I've got a headache, something I never usually get.

Nice to see it is doing me some good already. :D

Are you trying to quit? If so, kudos for making the effort! I think there are some forum members here who've gone down that path and I'm sure they'd be happy to give you advice.

Thanks.

My mother and sister wish me to quit so advice would be nice.

I went yesterday without a cigarette. Today I bought a packet and the first cigarette tasted awful. I tried a second one and it was a lot more pleasant.

So working on the basis that just one day makes the first taste awful I threw the packet away. I was going to give them to a friend but then wondered if that is really a friendly thing to do.

I am working on the basis that if I never buy them I will not smoke as I know very few people who smoke these days.

I remember learning that the nicotine is out of the system after only a few days so it should be pretty easy after that.

:yingyang:

Edit: It seems it takes a number of weeks at least to leave the system: http://www.med-health.net/How-Long-Does ... ystem.html

Hi TaiJitu
You Said:

I also have this problem. After I stop drinking I got lot of drinks left in my celler.
I gave some away but still not sure whether I am doing the right thing.

It is an interesting dilemma. If we chose to quit because it has been bad for us maybe it would be bad for others.

Many people drink and even smoke with very few ill effects though. There are people who live to a very old age who drink. I think giving alcohol to someone you know to be an alcoholic would be wrong to my mind.

As with everything I think it is about balance. If our friends drink or smoke in a balanced way it probably will do them no harm. I find it easier to balance drink then smoking but I will be happy if I have no more then one of each a week or a month.

I am sure one bottle given to a responsible person will do no harm. In fact quite the opposite it will most likely only give pleasure.

I am going to go see if I can get the packet back so I can give it to a responsible friend, throwing away money is a waste.

I guess it depends on what source you go to for information.

Visited my friend in the hospital who's condition has gotten worse. It struck me that watching the suffering of others can almost dampen one's own spirit.

Luckily it just made me tired by the end of the night but even this tiredness is uncommon and may signify some slight imbalance.

This strikes me as something to be mindful about.

Hi taijitu,

If you like writing a regular account of your thoughts and activities, why don't you start your own blog at one of the free blogging sites like Wordpress or Google Blogger ? You could then have a link to it in your signature here.
With kind regards,

Aloka :)

Nope this thread is just for people to write about their happy place. My blog if I where to write it would be "Taijitu's happy place". :D

I doubt anyone would be interested in reading about my day to day life.

I just write here when I am happy and think to do so and read what makes other people happy.

It isn't taking up too much room is it?

Oh - I wasn't thinking about the space here - I just thought I was making a helpful suggestion. :console:

Anyway, hope you have a very happy 2014.

I just made a terrible post over in the why is the Buddha not humane thread.....totally counter productive....a lot of crossed construals there.......but I'm still in a Happy Place......and I still think that if the Buddha claimed to be not humane that we should believe him mostly.

Hi Taijitu

This verse makes me happy.
Whatever you're alert to,
above, below,
across, in between:
knowing it as a bond in the world,
don't create craving
for it to be or not to be

[my translation for the last line, I'm not sure if it could be justified by the Pali, but it does make me happy  ]

Interesting last line. For me it suggests happiness through acceptance. Thank you for sharing this.

Someone I consider to be a friend shared something on chat with me the other night:

http://www.gardendigest.com/zen/quotes.htm

They add to my happiness as they put in words what I feel but had difficulty expressing.

 :D

I'll have to check it out and make an equally counter productive post!

Only joking! Only joking!

Ah, thanks to you in turn. Indeed, I laughed at this one, as I have had difficulty in expressing this very thing in other threads here.
It is too clear and so it is hard to see.

Had he known what fire was,
He could have cooked his rice much sooner.

Maybe it was an electric lantern. ;)
