On Sunday the 27th July 2014 was the 80th birthday of Ajahn Sumedho. Many people came to Amaravati monastery to celebrate it. They offered several cakes for breakfast and Luang Por said that it was his dream as a small boy to receive so many cakes, but he had to live until 80 for his dream to come true. We did the traditional Acariya-puja ceremony and asking for forgiveness, after which he gave a Dhamma talk. He said it is strange to think that 80 years ago he was only about 30 cm big. On his birth certificate he has the imprint of his baby foot. Since then, his feet have grown considerably. He expressed his gratitude for all the people who supported him in his life as a monk and also for countries like Thailand and England.
A set of five volumes of his collected teachings was distributed as well. Some books are available at http://fsbooks.org/viewBookCollection.php
Also the newly published biography of LP Panyavaddho, a student of Luangta Maha Boowa, was handed out and a portrait of him was unveiled in the Amaravati temple. This was to commemorate his role in establishing the English Sangha Trust in the 1960s.
