Google Wave

Postby adamposey » Sat Oct 31, 2009 6:43 am

It so happens that I have 16 invites to Google Wave. Anyone interested?

If you want one you'll need to PM me your email, or post it in this thread. That's how I have to send the invitations. Obviously the optimal thing to do would be to create a public list of people who want on, and then let people add each other as they get invited, but I understand the privacy implications.

Hi Adam,

Just as I finally got on board with facebook, another company (google) improves it!

david (at) thedhamma (dot) com

It sounds very good, with a sort of wiki, interactive, etc.

OK, I've got a lot of requests for these so let me do this. I'm going to go in order of, basically, who posted first and keep going until I run out. If I send you an invite, and you subsequently receive it in the mail, I'd like to ask that you simply "pay it forward" by inviting anyone that I missed. You don't have to, I just want to see that everyone gets one. :)

Good news! I'm pretty certain I had enough invites to cover both my friends and (basically) everyone from this forum who asked me about it. :)

These are the people that I've invited. If your name isn't on this list and you want an invite, just post your address here. The best way to post your email address is in the following format: username @ service.com (ex: adamposey @ Gmail.com) This'll give you some level of protection against bots but they're generally pretty intelligent. Unfortunately your email address isn't very private even when you try to protect it (as your spam folder no doubt demonstrates).

If your name is on this list here's what you can expect:

There will be a waiting period of several days. I have no idea how many it will be. The last time I sent out nominations/invites the people I had invited were sent their invites in about 48-72 hours. That doesn't mean it's true for this round as Google seems to be adding to it the more they feel like Google Wave is able to handle it. Basically, don't expect it instantly or even any time in the immediate future.

When you get your invite to google wave you'll have me added as a contact. My advice to you is to beef up your google profile in advance so that it's a little easier for people to find you and get to know you. If you need tips for beefing up your google profile let me know. Once you get invited you'll have (probably) about 4 invites of your own to give out. That number may be larger, I don't know, that's how many I was given at the start. If you only have 4 or 5 invites I recommend immediately adding the people with whom you're likely to actually communicate and then adding the forum people later. If you get a second batch or have a lot at the get go, go crazy. :)

If you have any questions let me know. :)

In the mean time can we think of any practical uses for Google Wave for this community?

I'd like to think that google wave sutta study groups could be formed. What do you think?

Will you all let me know when you start receiving invites? I don't get notified about this kind of stuff.
