Postmodern confusion

Postby pink_trike » Tue Dec 01, 2009 4:22 am

Can anyone recommend a critical analysis of postmodernism from an anthropological or psychological perspective?

(To clarify, I'm not looking for examples of postmodern-influenced anthropological studies - I'm looking for critical analysis of postmodernism's system of observation and its effects on individuals and society from an anthropological or psychological perspective).

Hi Pink

Ooooohh... you've uttered THAT dirty word, 'postmodernism'. :D

A quick search on Google found this:

http://tap.sagepub.com/cgi/content/abstract/8/5/601

Not sure if it relates to the kind of applied psychology that you are doing though.

heh

Thanks, I pulled this from that page...it sums up the meat I'm looking for:

The dangers that flow either from an optimistic naïve adoption of postmodern nostrums (relativism, amoralism, collectivism or autonomy or from a pessimistic disappointed embrace of the alternative visions it incites (scientism, fundamentalism, individualism or organicism) need to be urgently addressed.

Speak for yourself!

I eat vegetarians.

Not sure if it relates to the kind of applied psychology that you are doing though.

Have you read this? If so, is it worth $25.00 to access it?

One can go broke buying per-article access to journals these days...

Nope, it ain't worth it. Scholarly discussion of postmodernism is the written equivalent of monkey mind. Much verbiage, no content.
