What is going on at Buddhist Community??

Postby Laurens » Mon Dec 28, 2009 8:18 pm

I stopped using the site a while back, but in the last couple of days I've got loads of e-mails saying I have various messages etc. When I logged in the check out what all the fuss is about I discovered this on my profile:

(From Kah Leong Leo)
... And other members of the NKT cult

I don't know what that means! I don't even know what I'm being accused of!

Is this a virus? Or should I make an attempt to clear my name?

the best person to ask is the person who sent you the message!
seems strange that you get accused of this when you haven't been on?
This offering maybe right, or wrong, but it is one, the other, both, or neither!

Well I tried to message the person who sent it to me, but their profile is set to private...

I think it might be some kind of virus/hacker or whatever the technical term is... Just wondering if anyone could confirm this

I suspect it's somebody with a spambot or somebody just manually blasting disruptive messages. Not sure, but I turned off e-mail notification on my profile so I wouldn't get inundated with that kind of thing.

I wouldn't pay much attention to it.

The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." -- C. just had a look and looks like the shenanigans has been put a stop too, http://www.buddhist-community.com/forum_topic.php?forum_id=13&topic_id=127&post_id=5316 scroll down to the bottom.
there was a thread a little while ago on this sites lack of moderation, and the use of language. one of the people addressed in the post was talked about here, but I cant remember the name of the thread e-sangha has restarted or something along that line.

I have no idea what goes on at that site.
I stopped using it months ago after I was banned for sending the admin what I thought was a courteous email expressing my concerns with the lack of moderation.
Who knows what goes on in the minds of others.

I checked my account also, it turns out I had a strange message from Kah Leong Leo too.
Four types of letting go:

1) Giving; expecting nothing back in return
2) Throwing things away
3) Contentment; wanting to be here, not wanting to be anywhere else
4) "Teflon Mind"; having a mind which doesn't accumulate things

The real Leo is the sole and only person with moderation rights at BC, and he has not logged in for more than 2 months. A glitch in the software allows people to impersonate other people, meaning you can log in using any name you want even if the name is already used by someone else. A cultist is flaming the heck out of the thing. So the advice to ignore all of it very wise. Maybe if the moderator returns it might improve, but in the meantime, it is a very aggravating place.
