We won the song contest Grand Prix de Eurovision!!!

Postby Annapurna » Sat May 29, 2010 11:01 pm

:woohoo:

Sorry, you guys probably never even heard of it before, even though I saw it mentioned today on CNN, I believe, but it's a huge song contest in Europe, even Russia and the whole former East block are participating, all Scandinavian lands, all the way up to Iceland (the land with the vulcano, yes) down to Israel, Turkey and Greece, Spain, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Netherlands, UK, - just everybody!

Each nation has pre-elections and votes its best singer or group, and then they all compete in the land of the former winner.

Each nation has its distinct own culture and music, although most sing in English now.

We didn't win since...1982?

It's been a-ges!

18 year old Lena sang" Satellite".

I'm sure you can find it on YouTube.

Just thought I must share it since I'm from Germany.

But the good thing about the contest was, that there was no bad song at all, they all performed great, it was a super contest with great artists!

It's cult. Think of it...in a way it's like the Olympic games back in the old Greek days, only that now musicians are coming together for a huge contest.

We should only deal with each other in such peaceful competitions and parties and never ever go to war again.

I'm happy for Lena and really feel like congratulating all the others too for their excellent performances.

The best song contest of all times.

Metta,

Anna

PS: Even in my heavy metal days I never missed it....lol...

I guess that's all very "unbuddhist" but gee, it's the lounge.

Congratulations Anna!
Unfortunately, I missed seeing Eurovision this year. I'm sure I'll see a snippet of it on the newscast of our multi-cultural television station tonight.
kind regards

Ben

Greetings,

Now whilst I didn't watch Eurovision, I know enough about it to know that this sentence cannot possibly be true.

How could you say that with classics such as...

... and who could forget...

:D

(Yeah, I watch it every year but missed it this year because of work :( I hope my wife recorded it!

You could watch it if you wanted too? Via satellite? Wow, the world is small these days.... :alien:

Hey, that was the song title. "Satellite"...

But, Retro, it is true!

I know I didn't use to like all songs in previous events, but it has changed a lot in the last years since they losened the rules. If you haven't watched it in the last years, it's nothing like it used to be anymore, now, it rocks.

Even Turkey, a Muslim land, sent a heavy metal band.

Ok, nothing like Metallica, Rammstein, or Scorpions, but still, I find that amazing. Knowing how Muslims think about stuff like that.

And the East block nations really really rock!

Of course, one might say, it's all mainstream, and we're way above that.

Today, I'm not.

:woohoo:

Everything's groovy.

I'm such a child.

Yes, I think its been on every night for a week or more on SBS TV. We've been getting it for years, 20 or more, on SBS. Its also not unusual to have the winner of Eurovision reported on mainstream free-to-air television.
Yes it is a small world!
kind regards

Wow that is truly weird and I know weird when i see it.
"When you meditate, don't send your mind outside. Don't fasten onto any knowledge at all. Whatever knowledge you've gained from books or teachers, don't bring it in to complicate things. Cut away all preoccupations, and then as you meditate let all your knowledge come from what's going on in the mind. When the mind is quiet, you'll know it for yourself. But you have to keep meditating a lot. When the time comes for things to develop, they'll develop on their own. Whatever you know, have it come from your own mind.
