Cumbria shooting, 12 dead.

Postby Mawkish1983 » Thu Jun 03, 2010 6:08 am

In a rural village not far from where I live, a 52 year old has killed 12 and injured 11.

Very sad.

Its an appalling tragedy. Ones heart goes out to all effected.

As an secondary aside already the clamour to understand why has started. "if we understand why we can prevent this".
This is an entirely understandable response. And its almost certainly doomed to failure. Those who spend time with the darker elements of human behaviour know that this "why" is just as unanswerable as " why" questions in the Buddhas day. There is no why necessarily, beyond pain and rage and despair and emotional numbness.
We can tinker with gun laws and speculate about kamma..but in the end its a mystery.
And thats scary.

May all those involved be Well, Happy and Peaceful.

:anjali:
This is our foundation: to have sati, recollection, and sampajañña, self-awareness, whether standing, walking, sitting, or reclining. Whatever arises, just leave it be, don't cling to it. Be it like or dislike, happiness or suffering, doubt or certainty. Don't try to label everything, just know it. See that all the things that arise in the mind are simply sensations. They are transient. They arise, exist and cease. That's all there is to them, they have no self or being, they are neither ''us'' nor ''them.'' They are not worthy of clinging to, any of them. - Ajahn Chah
