Newbie inviting you to Spain

hello all,
my name is Viriya Karuna and I am really new to the Forum world.
I like what I have seen in this one so far, so I decided to register.

I have been practicing Theravada for many years now (with the usual up and downs).
In 2004 I went to Los Angeles and took 8 vows. For some time afterwards I struggled with them, but now I feel really comfortable and plan to join the nun community in the future.

I am German, but living in Spain where there was no Theravadin Sangha until last year, when some people founded the AEBT (http://www.aebtheravada.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - in Spanish, sorry). Now we are inviting monks (hopefully this year a nun, too) to come and teach and organize retreats.

Actually I wanted to ask you all if there is anyone who wants to come, help restaurate a little house I have in a little village near Zaragoza (north of Spain, between Madrid and Barcelona), sit and learn together, watch the animals (2 cats and 3 dogs) when I am away, perhaps learn Spanish...

So if there is anyone looking for a place to go and practice for some months or a year, just let me know.

Metta for you all,
may all beings be happy

Viriya Karuna

Hi Viriya Karuna,

Welcome to Dhamma Wheel.

That's a nice website you have; I'm impressed to see how much has been translated into Spanish. Is there any Spanish equivalent of the Pali Text Society, or are the translations all independent projects?

Best wishes,
Dhammanando Bhikkhu

Hello, good day for you, Venerable,

The translation efforts are individual merits, but mostly coordinated by the Mexican Association for Theravada Buddhism (http://www.btmar.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), thanks to Venerable Nandisena, a Spanish speaking Bhikkhu from Argentina, if I remember right.
He was here in Spain last year and we are very happy that there is a Bhikkhu who speaks Spanish, as most Spaniards do not speak English.

Greetings for you and everyone,
with Metta,

Viriya Karuna

Thank you all for the greetings and the nice words.
Chris, thanks, for the websites, I knew them already. The bosqueteravada site has a whole lot of material and the cmbt is the other website of the Sangha Venerable Nandisena is coordinating.

So where do you all come from? Many Europeans around?

Metta,
Viriya Karuna

Hola Viriyakaruna,

:namaste:

I am from Portugal, and my wife is Spanish (from Burgos).

I am happy to see Theravada Buddhism in Spain, and I wish you will meet your association's objectives.

I see on your website that there are same interesting books in Spanish that i did not know about, I will take a look at them.

hello, Rui Sousa, thanks for your greetings.
Unfortunately Portugal is like the forgotten neighbour here, I virtually never read anything about your beautiful country in the press (don't have TV, but I asked and people tell me that there is no news either).
I was there (a coast trip, from down south to up north) in 1995 and liked it very much.
Do you have a Theravadan Association? Many Theravadins there?

metta,
viriya karuna
