Gradually Dawns the Dhamma...
Friends:
Gradually Dawns the Dhamma!
The Buddha once told Ananda:
Ananda, it is not easy to teach the Dhamma to others.
One should consider five things before teaching Dhamma to others.
What five? One should teach thinking:
1: I will teach the Dhamma gradually starting with the most simple.
2: I will teach about the cause & effect of doing what is advantageous.
3: I will teach from and about gentle kindness out of genuine sympathy.
4: I will teach Dhamma not for the sake of gain, fame or admiration.
5: I will teach Dhamma without hurting or harming myself and others.
Ananda, it is not easy to teach the Dhamma to others. One should
consider these five things before teaching Dhamma to others.
Anguttara Nikaya III.184
Just as the ocean has a gradual deepening sloping off the continental
shelf, with a sudden drop-off only after a long stretch, exactly in the
same way, is this Doctrine and Discipline (dhamma-vinaya) a gradual
training, a gradual development, a gradual progression, with a sudden
penetration to understanding only after a long stretch. Udana 5.5
The Buddha's teaching is build upon this way of gradual development.
His method of "gradual instruction" (anupubbi-katha), and "gradual
training" (anupubbi-sikkha) makes the practitioner at each stage of
development discover new and ever deeper & more important aspects
of the law of cause-&-effect kamma, the cornerstone of Right View.

I. The habitual cheater who only takes from friends, has four features:
1. He thinks only of getting and rarely of giving
2. He gives only little when in the hope of getting much.
3. Only when he is pressed in danger does he help his friend.
4. He imitates friendliness only to promote his own advantage.
II. The smooth talker has four features:
1. He talks only of what is already done & now gone.
2. He talks only of what has not yet come.
3. He offers only help that has no true effect.
4. When his friend needs a hand, he then makes many excuses.
III. The empty flatterer has four features:
1. He agrees even, when his friend is doing some wrong.
2. He also agrees, when his friend is doing right.

IV. The leader to ruin has four features:
1. He is a companion only when drinking.
2. He is a companion only when partying.
3. He is a companion only in frequenting shows and amusements.
4. He is a companion only in gambling, gaming and betting.
How to recognize the 4 kinds of true friends with a genuine goodness (suhada-mitta)?
I. The helping friend has four features:
1. When his friend is off guard, then he guards & protects him.
2. When his friend is off guard, he guards & protects his property.
3. In times of danger, he is always a refuge of help & ready assistance.
4. In times of need, then he gives much more than asked for.
II. The friend through thick and thin has four features:
1. He confess his own secrets to his friend.
2. He keeps his friend's secrets safe and sound.
3. He does not desert or betray his friend in times of danger.
4. He will give even his own life for his friend's sake.
III The good counsellor has four features:
1. He restrains his friend from doing evil or harm.
2. He encourages him to do good & accumulate merit.
3. He explain to his friend, what he has not heard before.
4. He points out the way to prosperity, progress and happiness.
IV. The loving friend has four features:
1. When his friend is unhappy, he sympathizes in pity.
2. When his friend is happy, he is also happy for him.
3. When others criticize his friend, he comes to his defence.
4. When others praise his friend, he joins in their praise.
Such are the 4 false and the 4 true friends. Please take note of that!
B. Allocating one's wealth rightly by intelligent earning, spending & saving:
1. One portion is to be used for supporting oneself, family, dependents, and for charity.
2. Two portions to be used for investment in one's business or owned structures.
3. Another portion to be put aside as savings for future needs.

Today Esala Full-Moon Poya day!
Friends
How to be a Real True Buddhist through Observance?
This Esala Poya day is the full-moon of July, which is noteworthy since on this celebrated day:
1: The Blessed Buddha preached his First Sermon: The Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta.
2: The Bodhisatta was conceived in Queen Maya who dreamt a white elephant entered her side.
3: The Blessed Buddha made the Great Withdrawal from the world at the age of 29 years.
4: The Blessed Buddha performed the Twin Miracle (yamaka-patihariya) of dual appearance.
5: The Blessed Buddha explained the Abhi-Dhamma in the Tavatimsa heaven to his mother.
6: The ordination of Prince Arittha at Anuradhapura, under Arahat Mahinda on Sri Lanka.
7: The foundation of the celebrated Mahastupa & enshrinement of relics by King Dutugemunu.
8: The next day the yearly 3 months rains retreat (vassa) of Buddhist Bhikkhus start.
The Buddha performing the Twin Miracle of simultaneously producing water & flames from his body.
On such Uposatha Observance days:
Any Lay Buddhist simply joins the Three Refuges and undertakes
the Five Precepts like this: Newly bathed, shaved, white-clothed,
with clean bare feet, one kneels at a shrine with a Buddha-statue,
and bows first three times, so that feet, hands, elbows, knees and
head touch the floor. Then, with joined palms in front of the heart,
one recite these memorized lines in a loud, calm & steady voice:
As long as this life lasts:
I hereby take refuge in the Buddha.
I hereby take refuge in the Dhamma.
I hereby take refuge in the Sangha.
I hereby seek shelter in the Buddha for the 2nd time.
I hereby seek shelter in the Dhamma for the 2nd time.
I hereby seek shelter in the Sangha for the 2nd time.
I request protection from the Buddha for the 3rd time.
I request protection from the Dhamma for the 3rd …
I request protection from the Sangha for the 3rd time.
I will respect these Three Jewels the rest of my life!
I accept to respect & undertake these 5 training rules:
I hereby accept the training rule of avoiding all Killing.
I hereby accept the training rule of avoiding all Stealing.
I hereby accept the training rule of avoiding all Sexual Abuse.
I hereby accept the training rule of avoiding all Dishonesty.
I hereby accept the training rule of avoiding all Alcohol & Drugs.
As long as this life lasts, I am thus protected by these 5 precepts...
Then, one keeps and protects these sacred vows better than one's own
eyes & children!, since they protect you & all other beings much better
than any army! They are the highest offer one can give in & to this world!
This is the very start on the path towards Nibbana -the Deathless Element-
This is the Noble Way to Peace, to Freedom, to Bliss, initiated by Morality,
developed further by Dhamma-Study and fulfilled by training of Meditation...
Queen Maya who dreamt a white elephant entered her side when the Bodhisatta was conceived.
Today indeed is Pooya or Uposatha or observance day, where any lay Buddhist
normally keeps the Eight Precepts from sunrise until the next dawn...
If any wish an official recognition by the Bhikkhu-Sangha, they may simply
forward the lines starting with "I..." signed with name, date, town & country
to me or join here. A public list of this new Saddhamma-Sangha is here!

The Way to Divine Mental Liberation:
DIVINE:
If one speak the truth, is not angry and gives
when asked, even when one has only a little,
one may win a divine future state...
Dhammapada 224
FINAL BLISS:
The homeless sages, always restrained,
in both body and behaviour, finally pass to
the deathless state, where sorrow is not...
Dhammapada 225
ENTHUSIASM:
Those who are always aware and awake;
Training day and night, intent only on Nibbana,
their mental fermentations gradually evaporate.
Dhammapada 226
Comments: When Devas have been asked what good deeds they had
accomplished here on earth to cause them to be reborn in the happy
world in which they live, they have given different answers. Speaking
the truth, restraining anger, leaving hatred, listening to the dhamma,
charitable gifts of goods and wealth, even giving small gifts of fruit
and vegetables to a Bhikkhu or someone else are among the answers.
Even if we are poor, and have only the most modest gift to offer to
the Noble Sangha of Bhikkhus, such gifts are extremely meritorious!
In order for us to never return to the world in which we are now living,
we must become a faith-devote, a faith-liberated one, a body-witness,
a both-ways-liberated one, a Dhamma-devotee, a vision-attainer, or
a wisdom-liberated one, or finally an fully awakened Arahat!
The Buddha taught us to be “always alert and ever aware" so that we
may attain Arahatship, become liberated from all suffering while here,
and thus obtain the benefits of never having to experience birth,
old age, sickness, and death again! He insisted that we must train both
day and night, during all activities, in order to reach the supreme, blissful,
rapturous, quenched, satiated, stilled and calm state….NIBBANA!

Noble is Release!
Friends:
The Purpose of Purification is Release!
Buddha explained that it is for the sake of Nibbana that one trains the mind:
Morality is for the sake of self-control, control for the sake of absence of regret,
Absence of regrets is for the sake of joy, joy is for the for the sake of bliss,
Bliss is for the sake of tranquillity, tranquillity is for the sake of happiness,
Happiness is for the sake of absorption into one-pointed concentration,
Concentration is for the sake of knowledge & vision of how reality comes to be,
Knowledge and vision of how reality comes into being is for the sake of disgust,
Disgust is for the sake of disillusion, dry disillusion is for the sake of release,
Mental release is for the sake of knowledge and vision of awakening release,
Knowledge & vision of release is for the sake of Nibbana without clinging!
For this purpose is this speech, for this purpose is this noble advice!
For this purpose should one pay attention to this chain of causes!
That is: For the purpose of release of mind through non-clinging...

Infinitely Universal Friendliness Smiles :-)
Friends:
How to train and expand Universal Friendliness!
Sitting alone, in silence, each early morning, with closed eyes one wishes:
May I radiate and meet only infinite friendliness, kindness and goodwill!
May I and all the various beings on the 31 levels of existence develop and find
only the genuine good of infinite friendliness, kindness and goodwill!
May I and all beings on the sense-desire, fine-material and the formless plane
develop and encounter this fine infinite friendliness, kindness and goodwill!
May I and all beings in the front, to the right, the back, the left and below as
above develop and experience high infinite friendliness, kindness and goodwill!
May I and all beings in this city, country and universe always be fully aware
and deeply mindful of this infinite friendliness, kindness and goodwill!
May I and all beings in this city, country and universe examine all details and
subtle aspects of this sublime infinite friendliness, kindness and goodwill!
May I and all beings in this city, country and universe put enthusiastic effort
into their praxis of infinite friendliness, kindness and goodwill!
May I and all beings in this city, country and universe find enraptured joy and
jubilant gladness in this infinite friendliness, kindness and goodwill!
May I and all beings in this city, country and universe cultivate the tranquillity
of quiet, silent and all stilled infinite friendliness, kindness and goodwill!
May I and all beings in this city, country and universe attain concentrated and
absorbed one-pointedness of infinite friendliness, kindness and goodwill!
May I and all beings in this city, country and universe dwell in undisturbable
and imperturbable balance of infinite friendliness, kindness and goodwill!
Yeah! (Print this out, dwell in each state until deep, use ~ 25-45 minutes.
Comment: Universal Friendliness is the 1st endless state (Appamañña)
This gradually reduces all hate, anger, irritation, resentment, opposition,
stubbornness, mental rigidity, and unhappiness related with these states.
Release of Mind by Universal Friendliness (Metta-Ceto-Vimutti) is >16
times more worth, than any merit won by whatever worldly gift or gain...
Joining with the 7 links to Awakening will later cause formless jhana...

Believing in a "My-Self" ...
Friends:
Believing in an EGO locks the Clusters of Clinging:
At Savatthi the blessed Buddha once said:
Herein, friends, the untaught ordinary people, who do not know the Nobles,
who are unskilled in the Teaching of the Nobles, who do not know the Worthy,
who are untrained in the Worthy teachings, they regard the body as the self,
or they regard the self as having a body, or the body as being inside the self,
or they regard this hypothetical 'self' as being inside the body ...
Such belief is called one of the untaught ordinary people, one fettered by the
bonds of body, one bound to the inner and the outer, one who have not sighted
the further shore, one who have not sighted the beyond, one who is born bound,
and who dies bound. One who from this world goes to the next world ever again!
Such poor friend may also regard feeling as the self, or regard the 'self' as having
feeling, or regard feeling as being inside the self, or regard the self as being inside
feeling ... Such belief is called one of the untaught ordinary people, one fettered by
the bonds of feeling, one bound to the concepts of the internal, and the external,
one who have not sighted the further shore, one who have not sighted the beyond,
one who is born mentally bound, and who dies mentally bound, one who is reborn
forever, and ever again...
Such poor yet worthy friend may also regard perception as the self, or regard
the self as having perception, or regard the perception as being inside the self,
or regard the self as being inside perception ... Such one is called one of the
untaught ordinary people, one fettered by the bonds to perception, one bound to
the notions of ‘the inner is own’ and ‘the outer is other’, one who have not sighted
the further shore, one who have not sighted the beyond, one who is born bound,
and who also dies tied up to & by these clusters of clinging, repeating the round.
Such poor friend may also regard mental constructions as the self, or regard the
self as having, possessing, or owing mental constructions, or regard the mental
constructions as being inside the self, or regard the self as being inside the mental
constructions ... Such person is called one of the untaught ordinary people, one who
is fettered by the bonds of mental constructions, one bound to the duality of the
inner and the outer, one who have not sighted the further shore, one who have not
sighted the beyond yet, one who is born bound, and who dies bound, chained and
constrained by ideas.. One who endlessly repeats the cycle of birth and death....
Such confused friend may regard consciousness as the self, or regard the self as
having a consciousness, or regard the consciousness as being inside the self, or
regard the self as being inside the consciousness ... Such one is called one of the
untaught ordinary people, one fettered by the bonds of consciousness, one bound
to the mental and the material, one who have not sighted the further shore, one who
have not sighted the beyond, one who is born bound, who dies bound, one who from
this world goes to the world after this one ever and ever again...
But, friends, the well-taught Noble disciple, who indeed recognizes the Nobles,
who is skilled in the Dhamma of the Nobles, who indeed recognizes the Worthy,
who is trained in the Worthy teachings, such Noble One does not imagine the body
as being a self, neither does such Noble Friend regard this imagined self as having
a body, nor does such Noble Friend regard the body as being inside any fake self,
nor does such Noble Friend regard such fictious self as being inside any body ...
This one, friends, is called a well-taught friend, not fettered by the bounds of body,
nor bound to the inner, nor the outer, one who has sighted the sublime further shore,
one who has sighted the beyond. I tell you: Released is such Noble from all suffering!
Such Noble Friend does neither regard feeling as being the self, nor does he regard
perception as the self, nor does he regard mental constructions as the self, nor does
he regard consciousness as the self ... Such one is indeed called a well-taught friend,
who does not regard consciousness or any other state as an inner 'Ego', and who by
that is neither fettered by the bounds of consciousness, or any other ongoing process!
He is not bound to any internal phenomena, nor any outer phenomena... Such Noble one
has sighted the further shore, such one has assuredly sighted the beyond of all being...
Released is such Noble friend, I declare, from all suffering ... !

Divine Dwelling...
Friends:
Divine Dwelling is infinite and produces Gods!
Contemplation of infinitely friendly Loving-Kindness (Metta)
Having seen that like oneself all beings whatsoever searches only happiness
Patiently then cultivate friendly loving-kindness for all beings like this:
May I always be happy. May I always be free from suffering.
May all my friends always be happy and always be free from suffering.
May all neutral beings always be happy and always be free from suffering.
May all my enemies always be happy and always be free from suffering too!
Within this town, this country, this continent, this planet, all the galaxies,
May all sentient beings, all persons, all creatures, and all breathing things,
Be happy, be free, joyous, content and peaceful in their various destinies.
Whatever living beings there may be, men, women, Noble, or ordinary,
Animals, Devas, or unhappy ones, who lives in one of the ten directions,
whether weak or strong, long or large, short or small, far or near
seen or unseen, in existence or seeking to become this or that,
With none excepted: May creatures all be of a blissful heart!
May I be free from enmity! May I be free from distress!
May I be free from misery! May I live happily!
Whatever beings there are: May they be free from enmity!
Whatever beings there are: May they be free from distress!
Whatever beings there are: May they be free from misery!
Whatever beings there are: May they live happily!
May all beings … all breathing things … all creatures … all persons …
all entities … women … men … the Noble Ones … those not noble ones …
gods … humans … beings in the realms of deprivation in the east … west …
north … south … above … as below … and all around be free from enmity,
be free from distress, be free from misery, and live fully happily!
The Four Divine Abidings (Brahmavihãra):
I: Loving-kindness (Metta):
Whatever beings there are: May they be happy!
Whatever beings there are: May they be free from enmity!
Whatever beings there are: May they be free from distress!
Whatever beings there are: May they be free from misery!
Whatever beings there are: May they live happily!
II: Compassionate Pity (Karuna):
Whatever beings there are: May they be free from all pain & all suffering!
III: Mutual Joy with other's success (Mudita):
Whatever beings there are: May they not be separated from their gains!
IV: Equanimity (Upekkha):
Whatever beings there are: they are the owners of their kamma, inherit
their kamma, born of their kamma, related to their kamma, abide supported
by their kamma; whatever kamma they do, whether good or evil, the effect
of that will be the theirs only...

Even if the flesh & blood in my body dry up, leaving just the skin, tendons, & bones, I will use all my human firmness, human persistence and human striving. There will be no relaxing my persistence until I am the first of my generation to attain full awakening in this lifetime. ed. AN 2.5

The Supreme Goal Ahead:
The Blessed Buddha Gotama once said:
The purpose of morality is control of behaviour.
The purpose of controlled behaviour is absence of regrets.
The purpose of absence of regrets is joy.
The purpose of joy is satisfaction.
The purpose of satisfaction is calm.
The purpose of calm is happiness.
The purpose of happiness is concentration.
The purpose of concentration is understanding.
The purpose of understanding is disillusion.
The purpose of disillusion is detachment.
The purpose of detachment is mental release.
The purpose of mental release is Nibbana,
Final Freedom without any remnants of clinging...

Unhindered is any Real Freedom!
Friends:
Mental Hindrances => Neglect & Ruin:
The Blessed Buddha once said:
One whose mind is dominated by greed, lust, desire, and envy or jealously
will do, whatever should not be done, and neglect whatever should be done!
As a consequence of that, his good reputation is lost and his contentment &
happiness falls into ruin. Exactly so with anyone whose mind is overwhelmed
by anger and grumbling ill-will or overcome, slowed down & stagnated by the
hindrance of lethargy & laziness or agitated, scattered, and worried by the
hindrance of restlessness & regret or perplexed, confused and bewildered
by the hindrance of doubt & uncertainty... Such one will do what should not
be done at all, while neglecting what actually should be done. As a result of
that, his good name & status is lost & he is ruined by depressed frustration.
But if any Noble Disciple has seen these five as contaminated pollutions of
the mind, then he will gradually overcome & eliminate them. When doing so,
he becomes known as one of deep understanding, of fine & great knowledge,
clear-sighted, endowed with wisdom. This lack of mental hindrance is indeed
exactly, what is called endowment with wisdom!
There are these five Mental Hindrances:
1: Sense-Desire & Lust,
2: Hate and Anger,
3: Lethargy & Laziness,
4: Restlessness & Regret,
5: Doubt & Uncertainty.
How to break and overcome these 5 Mental Hindrances (Nivaranas):

Happy is Knowing!
Friends:
Fine Feed-Forward Mirror Effects!
Making others happy, makes oneself happy!
Making others unhappy, makes oneself unhappy!
When happy, one easily becomes concentrated...
When unhappy, one easily becomes distracted...
When concentrated, one sees and knows it, as it really is!
When unconcentrated, one can neither see, nor know reality!
Seeing and knowing reality makes exact navigation possible!
Neither seeing, nor knowing reality makes navigation impossible!
Exact navigation enables perfectly right behaviour...
Erroneous navigation disables perfectly right behaviour...
When acting only right, one makes no mistakes!
When acting only wrong, one makes many mistakes!
Making mistakes is painful, both now and later...
Making no mistakes is Happiness, both now and later...

What is Right View?
Friends:
What is this crucial Right View?
The Noble Eightfold Way, leading to Nibbana, is simply this:
Right View
Right Motivation
Right Speech
Right Action
Right Livelihood
Right Effort
Right Awareness
Right Concentration
But what is Right View?
Right View of Ownership of Kamma:
All beings are owners of their kamma, inherit their kamma,
are born of their kamma, are created by their kamma, are
linked to their kamma and any intentional action (=kamma)
they do, whether good or bad, the effects of that will be
theirs only, following them like a shadow, that never leaves...
This is Right View!
Right View of the Ten Phenomena:
Giving alms has good effects, any self-sacrifice results in pleasure,
small gifts are also beneficial. There is resulting fruition thus of any
good and any bad behaviour. There is moral efficacy of any relation
to mother and father. There is this world and there are other worlds.
There are beings who are spontaneously and instantaneously born.
There exist good and pure recluses and priests in this world, who
having followed the right method of practice, themselves by their
own supra-human abilities, have directly experienced the other worlds
and who explain them and thereby make them known here...
This is Right View!
Right View of the Four Noble Truths:
Right view of this is Suffering...
Right view of Craving is the Cause of Suffering...
Right view of No Craving is the End of Suffering...
Right view of the Noble 8-fold Way leads to the end of Suffering...
This is Right View!
