Development of Infinite All-Embracing Kindness!

Image

The Blessed Buddha once said:
Bhikkhus and Friends: There are these four infinite mental states:
The Bhikkhu pervades all beings with all-embracing friendliness...
The Bhikkhu encompass all creatures with universal & endless pity...
The Bhikkhu permeates all individuals with infinite and mutual joy...
The Bhikkhu suffuses all living mortals with unlimited equanimity...
First in one direction, then in the 2nd, then the 3rd, & finally the 4th,
above, below, all around, in every location, unifying himself with all beings,
he pervades the entire universe with a kind and all-embracing friendliness,
with an all-encircling compassion & pity, with an all-enveloping mutual and
altruistic joy, and with an all-encompassing imperturbable equanimity, fully
utilizing a refined mind, made great, vast, profound, infinite, immeasurable,
released from all hate, anger, irritation, opposition and stubbornness...

Because of hate, overwhelmed and obsessed by hate, one lives while
doing evil deeds, speaking wrong words, and thinking bad thoughts...
Thus one neither really understands one's own welfare, nor the
welfare of others, nor the welfare of both... If, however, this hate
is overcome and subdued, then one lives while doing good deeds,
speaking kind words, and thinking advantageous thoughts...
Therefore one really knows, what is one's own welfare, for the
welfare of others, & for the welfare of both one self & others...

Aware and Composed...

Post by Bhikkhu_Samahita »

Friends:

Aware and Composed Dwelling:

Image

The Blessed Buddha once said:
Monks, a Noble should dwell Aware and Composed…
This is our instruction to you!

And how does a monk dwell Aware?
Herein a friend dwells contemplating any body as a void frame only;
as a transient, painful and impersonal neither-me-nor-mine appearance,
while alert, ballanced and deliberately aware, thereby overcoming
any mental rejection of reality, arised from coveting this world…
Exactly so does he dwell with regard to any feeling..
with regard to any mood and mentality..
with regard to any phenomenon..
Only precisely so is this Noble One Acutely Aware!

Image

And how does a monk dwell Composed?
Herein a friend dwells fully aware of all feelings, that arise..
fully aware of all feelings, that settle..
fully aware of all feelings, that cease..
Such Noble One dwells fully aware of all thoughts, that arise..
fully aware of all thoughts, that remain..
fully aware of all thoughts, that stop..
Such clever one dwells fully aware of all perceptions, that arise..
fully aware of all perceptions, that persist..
fully aware of all perceptions, that end..
Just so is this Noble One Cool, Calm, and Composed!

Any disciple should dwell Aware and Composed.
This is our instruction to you…

The 4 Cool Truths!

Post by Bhikkhu_Samahita »

Friends:

What are the Benefits of Training Mental Concentration?

Image

Once in Savatthi the Blessed Buddha said this:
Bhikkhus, train and develop concentration! Any Bhikkhu, who is concentrated
understands things as they really are and as they really become! How?
1: He understands as it really is: This and such is Suffering,
2: He understands as it really is: This and such is the Cause of Suffering,
3: He understands as it really is: This and such is the Ceasing of Suffering,
4: He understands as it really is: This is the Way leading to the End of Suffering!

Bhikkhus, develop concentration! A Bhikkhu, who is concentrated understands
not only the appearance, but things as they really are and as they really become!
Therefore, Bhikkhus, an effort should be made to comprehensively understand:
This is Suffering; This is the Cause of Suffering; This is the End of Suffering;
This is the way leading to the End of Suffering... An effort should be made to
comprehend, fathom, grasp, understand, and penetrate these Four Noble Truths!

ImageImage

Comments:
Those who makes that effort, and understands, shortens this Samsaric round...
Those who neglects that effort, and ignores it, prolongs this Samsaric round...

The Smiling Mountain :-)

Post by Bhikkhu_Samahita »

Friends:

Neglect Looses All, while Careful Alertness Wins All!

Image

At Savatthi the Blessed One once said this:
I will teach you, friends, about the one who lives negligent, and about
the one who lives alert. Listen cautiously and pay full attention to it!

How, friends, does one live Negligent?
In him, friends, who lives with an uncontrolled ability to see, the mind is
agitated and warped by the objects recognizable by the eye. In him whose
mind is agitated and warped, there is no satisfaction! Without satisfaction,
there is no joy! Where there is no joy, there is no contentment, no calm, no
tranquillity, and no mental peace! Without this calm, one thus lives in sorrow,
frustrated, urging, and searching! Such sorrowful person’s mind is neither
composed, nor collected, nor confident. When the mind is not composed, one
has neither any clarity, nor any certainty! By not having any clear thinking,
one is reckoned as one, who lives negligent. One is regarded as confused...
So also it is for one who lives without any control over the ability to hear,
smell, taste, touch and without any control over the ability to think…

And how, friends, does one live Alert?
In him, who lives with a fully controlled ability to see, the mind is neither
agitated, nor warped by any object recognizable by the eye. In one, whose
mind is neither agitated, nor warped, satisfaction is born! In one satisfied,
joy is born. When one is joyful, the body is calmed down. He, whose body is
calmed, feels at ease. Composed is mind of one, who is at ease. When mind is
composed, one’s ideas are clear. One gains certainty & assured confidence!
By having clear ideas and thinking, one is reckoned as one who lives alert, &
as one, who is alert! So also it is for any one, who lives with full control over
the ability to hear, smell, taste, touch or controlling the ability to think.
Thus, friends, is one, who lives ready and aware in alertness.

Image

Comments:
Not seduced by the mere glitter of sensation of any kind, not running after
fancy dreams, driven by hopes or compelled longing. By not yearning after
pleasant sensations, satisfied by whatever there is, thus at ease, stilled,
one remains just calm, cleared and cooled... Like a Smiling Mountain :-)

The Ultimate Goal!

Post by Bhikkhu_Samahita »

Friends:

The Ultimate Goal is complete Extinguishing of Craving:

Image

By the gradual stilling, giving up, fading away, letting go, relinquishing
and thus ceasing of all greed, desire, lust, craving, clinging, attachment,
adherence, obsession, and latent tendency towards the various elements
of forms, feelings, perceptions, constructions & kinds of consciousness,
the mind is finally said to be well released...!!!
Therefore; those recluses & priests, who are well released by Extinction
of Craving, have reached the Ultimate End & won Absolute Security from
Bondage, they have achieved a Sublime Nobility, they have accomplished
the Supreme Good! They are therefore Best among all Gods & all Humans!!!
Even these mighty Devas as Indra, Brahma and Pajapati praise them with
these long standing ovations from afar:

Homage to you, Thoroughbred Man!
Admirable are you, Supreme Man!
We do not know on what you Meditate!

Enlightened without a Teacher!!

Post by Bhikkhu_Samahita »

Friends:

Gotama Buddha explained this about the Pacceka-Buddhas:

Image

The muni Vedeha (Ananda) bowing his body, asked the Tathagata, who was
staying at Jetavana: PaccekaBuddhas exist, yet by what reasons do they
arise, 0h wise one? Then the best of the omniscient, the great wise one told
the following to Ananda in a sweet voice:

Those who paid honour to all former Buddhas, without attaining liberation
during the period in which their teaching was known, who are wise by means
of sense of urgency, whose intelligence is very sharp, also without the
instruction of Buddhas, these attain insight alone even by means of a tiny
limited object of meditation... And furthermore, in this whole world, there
is no one except me, equal to these PaccekaBuddhas. I shall clearly express
the following, only an short description, of the distinction of these great
heroic Munis (silenced ones)...

Listen, all of you, who wish for the highest medicine, your attention should
be very calm, always directed to their good words, which are sweet like
fine honey of those great wise men, who are fully & perfectly enlightened
all by themselves!

Image

These are the explanations of PaccekaBuddhas, who assembled on Mount
Gandhamadana, pronounced one after the other, about the sorrow of any
desire and the cause of the overcoming of all craving, & how they attained
their insight. Conscious of the absence of lust, while being in the midst of
the objects of lust, their minds are dispassionate in an infatuated world,
having dumped the proliferations, & subdued all obstructions, they all
attained insight thus:

Putting aside any violence to all beings, not hurting any of them, good and
compassionate, with a mind filled with friendliness, one should live, alone,
like the horn of a rhinoceros...

Their morality are pure, their wisdom purified, their minds are
concentrated, practicing watchfulness, reflecting, seeing the
characteristics of the dhamma, they understand it, having developed all the
elements of the Noble Way and the Links to Enlightenment...

Having perfected the fulfillment of merit, with the motive to become a
solitary conqueror, they become PaccekaBuddhas, self-existent,
independent, such is destination of the wise, who does not attain the state
of a disciple during the time in which, there still remains the knowledge of
the SammaSamBuddhas teaching...

Image

Their dhamma being great, being all sublime manifestations of the core
essential dhamma, powerful are their minds, having overcome the flood of
suffering, their minds are exalted, seeing the highest & deepest truth, they
are like lions, like the horn of a rhinoceros...

With serene senses, calm, concentrated, remembering all beings in remote
border districts, illuminating like lamps in the other world and in this world,
thus are these PaccekaBuddhas, always good...

Having destroyed all hindrances, these kings of men, illuminators of the
world, shining like pure solid gold, undoubtedly worthy of any gifts in this
world, are these PaccekaBuddhas, always good...

There are in this world together with the divine world, good teachings of
PaccekaBuddhas. Those fools, who after having heard these, do not act
accordingly, whirl round in suffering again and again...

Those who act accordingly, having heard the good words of
PaccekaBuddhas, which are like pure streaming honey of small delicate
bees, become seers of the truths, possessing Wisdom! Thus spoke the
Gotama Buddha about those solitary ones Awakened like a rhinoceros horn...

The Mental Bath!

Post by Bhikkhu_Samahita »

Friends:

The Internal Bath that opens into Prime Divinity!

Image

Buddha once said to Nandaka, the Licchavi minister.
Nandaka, a Noble Disciple who possesses four things is a Stream-Enterer,
who is no longer bound to the lower world, who is fixed in destiny, who has
won enlightenment as his assured future destination. What four things?
Nandaka, any Noble Disciple has unshakable Faith in the Three Jewels thus:
1: Worthy, honourable & perfectly self-Enlightened is the Buddha indeed! ...
2: Perfectly formulated is the Dhamma, visible right here & now, immediate ...
3: Perfectly training is this Noble Sangha of the Buddha's Noble disciples...
4: A Noble possesses Morality esteemed by the Noble Ones: Unbroken, pure...
Any Noble Disciple, who is endowed with these 4 things is a Stream-Enterer,
no longer bound to the painful worlds, fixed in destiny, with enlightenment as
his certain future destination. Furthermore, Nandaka, a Noble Disciple who
possesses these four things gains a very long life, whether Divine or human!
He becomes endowed with exquisite bodily beauty, whether Divine or human!
He becomes endowed with a content happiness, whether Divine or human!
He becomes endowed with honour and fame, whether Divine or human!
He becomes endowed with a sovereign power, whether Divine or human!
I explain this to you, Nandaka, not having heard it from any recluse or priest!
Rather, I tell you just what I have known, seen, & understood directly myself!
When this was said, a man said to Nandaka, the minister of the Licchavis:
"It is time for your bath, Sir." Who promptly responded: Enough now, I say,
with that fake external bath... This internal bath will suffice, namely,
firm confirmed, confident conviction in this Blessed One...

The 7 Noble Goals..

Post by Bhikkhu_Samahita »

Friends:

Completion of 7 Things initiates The Noble 8-fold Way!

Image

Human beings are special as they can train, learn, and educate themselves to elevating progress!

The Blessed Buddha once explained:
Completion of 7 things is the seed, initiator, and precursor for developing the Noble 8-fold Way!
What are these 7 things?

1. Having a Good and Beautiful Friend (Kalyana-mitta):
Such friend has a pure and beautiful mind, which by simply being a good example will influence and
encourage all other beings to improve their mentality, behaviour & understanding. Such good friend
encourages one to learn, train, and develop one self towards individual, and social harmony.

2. Completion of Pure Morality (Sila-sampada):
Having a minimum of 5-precept moral discipline is the indispensable foundation of any right life..
This means living harmlessly and helpfully, and not exploitatively, both within the material and
social environment, by using the four necessities of food, clothing, shelter and medicine as
well as any technology, so they enhance a true quality of one's own and others beings life, by
promoting education, constructive action, merit-making, and the state of balance in nature.

3. Consummation of Motivation (Chanda-sampada):
Having a mind that is well motivated by withdrawal and good-will, which aims at learning and
doing good. Not obsessed by only wanting ever more, getting new, and low consumer pleasure...
Instead, one uses all one's abilities in joyous learning of how to do only advantageous things,
avoid all evil and detrimental things, and purify one's mind into a subtle radiant excellence..

4: Perfection of One-self (Atta-sampada):
By dedicating oneself to the realization of one's full human potential through daily meditation.
One views all difficulties, hardships, obstacles, and problems as good training grounds to test
and improve one's mind, intelligence, and abilities toward the realization of one's full potential,
through a comprehensive refinement, that encompasses mentality, behaviour, and understanding.

5. Clarification of View (Ditthi-sampada):
Seeing that all phenomena has a cause and an effect is adhering to the principle of conditionality.
This comprehension of the vast mutual dependency of all mental and material states in the universe
comes from repeated reasoning, thorough examination, and an excellence in rational analysis. This
enables a mental clarity and intellectual independence of neither being impulsive, nor over-reactive,
by not allowing oneself to drift along the stream of public hysteria and banal commonday priorities.

6. Achievement of Alertness (Appamada-sampada):
To be acutely and constantly aware of the inevitable impermanence, inherent instability, transience,
fleeting evanescence and total insubstantiality of all life, all things, and all phenomena, which are
constantly changing according to their causes and conditions, both internally and externally, will
establish oneself in alertness. One realizes, that one cannot afford to be complacent. One sees the
preciousness of time, and strives to learn about, prevent, and rectify the causes of decline and bring
about the causes of growth and prosperity, using all one's time, night and day to the greatest advantage!

7. Fulfillment of Rational Attention (Yoniso-manasikara-sampada):
Attending wisely so as to what is the cause of any phenomena or state, will make one advantageously
realize the real truth. To investigate, by intelligently examining, investigating, tracing, analyzing and
researching into the very proximate cause of any given situation, will make one able to solve problems
and do things successfully through intelligent methods, that allows one to be independent, self-reliant,
and by that cement-solid self-sufficiency become a helping refuge to many other people and beings.

As dawn is the forerunner for the rising of the sun, even and exactly so do these 7 things
seed, initiate, and begin the development, and completion of the Noble 8-Fold Way..
The Noble 8-fold Way culminates in Nibbana - the Deathless State - !

These 7 things are therefore indeed Noble Goals!
