Suttas on the "seven perceptions" of great fruit and benefit

Postby mettafuture » Sat May 18, 2013 6:49 am

I've been reading the Sañña Sutta (AN 7.46), as recommended by mikenz66 in another thread , and I've come to a couple of conclusions: 1) This is one of the most lucid and concise teachings I've come across on how to deal with sense desire, death anxiety, gluttony, ego, etc... 2) I really should spend more time with the Anguttara Nikaya.

Are there any other suttas in the Tipitaka which detail the seven perceptions, or are they unique to this sutta?

Girimananda Sutta

10 perceptions

[1] "And what is the perception of inconstancy?
[2] "And what is the perception of not-self?
[3] "And what is the perception of unattractiveness?
[4] "And what is the perception of drawbacks?
[5] "And what is the perception of abandoning?
[6] "And what is the perception of dispassion?
[7] "And what is the perception of cessation?
[8] "And what is the perception of distaste for every world?
[9] "And what is the perception of the undesirability of all fabrications?
[10] "And what is mindfulness of in-&-out breathing?

And what is right speech? Abstaining from lying, from divisive speech, from abusive speech, & from idle chatter: This is called right speech.
