I had almost answered your post a couple of times... But I have no experience with longer retreats.

I must admit, that I envy ( there was a feeling/topic me to contemplate ;) ) you, that you have the possibility, and means to do so. If I had that opportunity, I would also like to go on a long(er) retreat, although I haven't had time to think on how to prepare myself for a 3 moths retreat; mainly because it is irrelevant to me, as I'm not about to go on a long(er) retreat.

i actually looked if i could do a 10 day vipassana retreat before i go there, just to get into the meditation mode. but they dont have space for next month anywhere, and its almost as hard to travel to another country to do a vipassana since the retreats are not in the cities where the airports are, than to travel straight to Myanmar and go for a longer retreat. same hassle , but i think the 3 months will provide a better result.

hello,
I have done a long retreat (4 months) this past Spring, and it was lovely.

I recommend bringing more flashlight batteries than you think you will need. Also, be gentle on yourself when you feel homesick etc.

The first nights were tough bc of being away from home, and wrestling with desires/urges (going to bed somewhat hungry was new for me)

But, I would love to do it again. Ordination is on my mind, it is a beautiful way to live. It deepened my meditation practice tremendously.

I wish you the best!

I don't think there is any special advice I can really give you. Just take it by the day but know that emotions are likely to come up. You'll might have some very tough times, but also some very beautiful times. Be easy on yourself and enjoy it! Don't overly focus on meditation, desiring results. Just try to get along with the schedule and feel the breeze.
