Devas' Reproduction

Postby Upasaka Sumana » Thu Jan 07, 2010 3:06 pm

I'm curious as to how beings in the heavenly, hell, and hungry ghost realms procreate.

Think not lightly of evil, saying, "It will not come to me." Drop by drop is the water pot filled. Likewise, the fool, gathering it little by little, fills himself with evil.
Think not lightly of good, saying, "It will not come to me." Drop by drop is the water pot filled. Likewise, the wise man, gathering it little by little, fills himself with good.

I think most (all?) devas are born spontaneously, no procreation, just appearing in a deva realm according to their kamma instantly after the death in their previous life.

Yes devas (and actually beings reborn in hell) are born spontaneously. This type of rebirth is called opapātika and is part of right view with effluents (mundane):

"atthi sattā opapātikā"
"There are spontaneously reborn beings"
