Devas' Reproduction

Postby Upāsaka Sumana » Thu Jan 07, 2010 3:06 pm

I'm curious as to how beings in the heavenly, hell, and hungry ghost realms procreate.
My philosophy is simple: saying 'yes' to the positive and 'no' to the negative.

With metta,

I think most (all?) devas are born spontaneously, no procreation, just appearing in a deva realm according to their kamma instantly after the death in their previous life.

Yes devas (and actually beings reborn in hell) are born spontaneously. This type of rebirth is called opapātika and is part of right view with effluents (mundane):

"atthi sattā opapātikā"
"There are spontaneously reborn beings"
