Help me find a monastery to retreat?

Postby JKPenumbra » Tue Mar 09, 2010 7:50 am

Hello again all.
I was curious as to a monastery I could visit maybe in April that would be doing a Vipassana or even just dhamma retreat..
I could get the greyhound ticket there.. But I'll have difficulties with taxi fares and such.

Any recommendations where I could go on a mini-retreat, 5-10 days or so, that would help me with transportation once I'm there?
I would like to find a sangha
Thank you :)

Or, I would be interested in a month-long residency as well
I had been considering ordination but I have a lot to learn before taking that leap.

Months ago I tried contacting "Meditation Circle of Charleston" with no replies, I think they're no longer practicing.
While I would LOVE to visit the Bhavana society, it's always booked up, their retreats fill really fast, I'm not sure about residency for lay people there.
I was thinking something within a couple thousand miles, a well established place out of state...
I'm willing to travel I just don't know the reputation of all the centers and teachers and such.

Well, honestly I would be open to out of country travel as well.. You see during my break from the University this summer I wanted to take time for some emotional and spiritual growth.
I've always been Atheist and thus far I've found that nearly everything in the Dhamma I can agree with whole heartedly, it's sort've filled a void.

The only real issue is realistically I'll probably only be working with 300-500 USD.
So a cheap greyhound ride is preferable :)
