Greetings,
See also the Google Saffron search engine linked to in my signature. A search on the Kalama Sutta will yield several interesting results. Be aware though there are some terrible misrepresentations of the Kalama Sutta out there, so be careful with any that take liberties to re-write it according to their own agenda. The one Ben links to is fine.
Metta,
Retro.

If you have asked me of the origination of unease, then I shall explain it to you in accordance with my understanding:
Whatever various forms of unease there are in the world, They originate founded in encumbering accumulation. (Pārāyanavagga)'We should not congratulate someone on the success of their misdeeds, but on the contrary should endeavour to advise him or her to lead a more skilful and wholesome life. If such advice is ignored then we can only give up and let go' - Phra PanyapatipoDharma Wheel (Mahayana / Vajrayana forum)

Kalamas, when you yourselves know: "These things are bad; these things are blamable; these things are censured by the wise; ...
Kalamas, when you yourselves know: 'These things are good; these things are not blamable; these things are praised by the wise; undertaken and observed, these things lead to benefit and happiness,'
It can bee seen that actually "knowing" is presupposed: "knowing" what to abandon and what to untertake and knowing to discern the "wise" and the "unwise".
One of many example's of an advice refering the subject to itself. That whould be a blind alley if concrete instructions would not follow about what "The disciple of the Noble Ones" abandon and what they undertake.
Kind regards
