Video: The Similarities Between Death & Meditation

Post by Jhana4 »

This video, interestingly, doesn't have much to say about rebirth or Buddhist doctrine. I thought what Ajahn Brahm had to say about the validity of near death experiences (i.e. someone temporarily dying on an operating table, etc ) could have used more support. However, Ajahn Brahm had some very interesting views on how deep meditation ( sounded like he was referring to jhannic states ) is similar to death. So much so, I think this video is well worth watching just to hear those opinions.

In reading the scriptures, there are two kinds of mistakes:
One mistake is to cling to the literal text and miss the inner principles.
The second mistake is to recognize the principles but not apply them to your own mind, so that you waste time and just make them into causes of entanglement.

I know a monk who says that "Meditation is a kind of death." And he often compares it in a similar way as Ajahn Brahm did.
