Looking for practical books for everyday life

Postby yuri74 » Thu Nov 10, 2011 12:15 am

I have a small collection of buddhist books already but I would like to find a few more books that treat the use of buddhism in every day life, in everyday problems. With concrete everyday examples about how to relate to life's difficulties in a buddhistic way. Does anyone know such books? Please let me know! Thank you in advance.

Eight Mindful Steps to Happiness: Walking the Buddha's Path by Bhante Henepola Gunaratana

http://www.wisdompubs.org/Pages/display ... yValue=119

:namaste:
The heart of the path is SO simple. No need for long explanations. Give up clinging to love and hate, just rest with things as they are. That is all I do in my own practice. Do not try to become anything. Do not make yourself into anything. Do not be a meditator. Do not become enlightened. When you sit, let it be. When you walk, let it be. Grasp at nothing. Resist nothing. Of course, there are dozens of meditation techniques to develop samadhi and many kinds of vipassana. But it all comes back to this - just let it all be. Step over here where it is cool, out of the battle. - Ajahn Chah

One exceptionally good one.
I read it a lot, as a self-nudging exercise!

"Samsara: The human condition's heartbreaking inability to sustain contentment." Elizabeth Gilbert, 'Eat, Pray, Love'.

Simplify: 17 into 1 WILL go: Mindfulness!

Quieta movere magna merces videbatur. (Sallust, c.86-c.35 BC)
Translation: Just to stir things up seemed a good reward in itself. ;)

I am sooooo happy - How on earth could I be otherwise?! :D

Perhaps this is more abstract than what you are looking for: The Buddha's Teachings on Prosperity: At Home, At Work, In the World, by Bhikkhu Rahula.

In fact, most of buddhist books are intended to teach how to abandon the mental defilement which are the root of all bad effects.

This below link is my collection of buddhist ebooks which is mainly concerned about the right understanding/ contemplation of how to abandon the mental defilement in the right way which is practical and useful in easiness of daily life. The e-books are written by me, based on the teaching of Sayadaw U Ottamasara from Than-lyin meditation center, Yangon, Burma.

with metta,
Awareness(mental noting) alone is not enough for real enlightenment. (Ashin Tejaniya)
Created truths(Sammuti Sacca) are just to be used only, experienced only and known only but .....they are not for noting, believing, confirming, centering and thinking as reality and real importance.
Vipassana (Insight meditation) is just the abandoning the mind-action of centering, grasping, confirming, and attaching the created truths as reality and as of real importance.
